E7174B8A-BD20-4772-ABAD-AAD4308F79D9.jpg I have a Tacoma TRD Sport 2018. Today I found an oil spot on the floor by the right rear tire, and when I
inspected it I found the shock is leaking oil, it is Hitachi 84530-04101 brand. How come the shock leaks in less than 2 years since I use my truck lightly.
Is it under warranty? Will Toyota dealer replace it for free? Does anyone had the same issue?
    Thank you

What is your milage... 3 year or 36k which ever comes first. All you can do is make an appointment next week for that specific issue and go see what they say.

The milage is 38k so that means I have to pay for it? What about the shock itself, does hitachi provide lifetime warranty?

Your ride quality, and overall happiness in life will improve immensely once you toss all four of them OEM shocks into the garbage can. They need to be replaced ASAP with any Type of 2.5” diameter shock. If you’re not cheap I would highly recommend the 2.5“ shocks with the clicker adjustment on the remote resi so you don’t have to revalve the shocks in order to get them where you want.

38k in two years isn’t light use. But you could have dropped a rear wheel of a tall curb and done it. Made by man it will faul sooner or later.

It’s a freeway milage, use my truck to work and back home.
I have never driven my truck in such a bumpy road

I don't think that shock will be covered under warranty, which sucks. You'll probably have to foot the bill for new shock(s) yourself. It's worth calling Toyota customer service to see if they're willing to help, though.

If you're not much of a modder, there are long-lasting low-failure replacement shocks you can buy for a reasonable price. Old Man Emu (OME) and Dobinsons both make quality twin-tube nitrocharger shocks.

    https://www.headstrongoffroad.com/store/p82/OME_Nitrocharger_Sport_Rear_Shocks_(PAIR)_-_60091.html
    https://exitoffroad.com/product/dobinsons-pair-of-rear-shocks-for-toyota-tacoma-4x4-2005-2020

These aren't anyone's definition of "peak performance," but they'll do the job for a long time. I'd replace both rear shocks at the same time, unless you're going for an identical-to-OEM replacement. If your front shocks are fine, there's no need to replace those if you don't want to.

Yeah, upgrade! You have a few options mentioned on here that will improve your truck's ride quality both on and off pavement without going hog wild, and you won't be disappointed -- you'll just wonder what took so long!

Those are a favorite around here, but at nearly double the price point of the ones I linked. It’s really up to you.

Suspension mods are a gateway drug to full-blown modding. If you’re cool with that, then go wild.

Its what I replaced my SR’s blown rear shocks with. They’re great. Make sure you order the pair, or better yet get the fronts too. Total cost for all 4 was $360 for parts, I did the install myself. Significantly better ride quality and handling.
