Options. Removed swaybar and now rubs when flexed

I’m looking for options other than the obvious - put the swaybar back on lol

I ran the same trail yesterday that I ran 2 weeks ago. The only change is that I removed the swaybar. The front tire pretty easily rubbed the back of the fender with easy turns (not locked) and some flex/pressure.

265/75/16s roughly 2” lift and DK UCAs.

    Options?
    - find an alignment shop that can push the LCAs slightly forward and align from that point?
    - trim the fender back?
    - CMC? It’s inevitable but I figured I’d run these for a few more years before going bigger. Certainly overkill or maybe even solves a diff problem?

    thanks!

pics show the current level setting and about to rub...

I’d get an alignment done to add more caster. Looks like you’ve got a bit of room in front of the tire

This is the game, good sir.

with more TRAVEL comes more TRIMMING.

the best remedy depends on your goals for the truck. If you want it to articulate as much as possible, don’t be afraid to beat some stuff with a hammer here & trim some stuff there and even remove sections of fender liner. If you’d rather not deal with any of that, put the swaybar back on and do NOT get tires any larger than you already have.

If you factory ucas you should be able to get 2.8-3 on caster. If you have after markets that are adjustable or have a fixed positive caster you should be able to get 3-5 degrees of caster pretty easy.

    sure those are a 265 and not a 285?

Either way, wheel is not centered in the wheel well at all, push it forward with an alignment and your rubbing will go away.

THAT STATED. Much higher than the mid 3's on caster will net quite a bit of pull due to road crown by nature of the extra caster. Shoot for 3-3.3* and if you have to edge around 4 to above 4 to move the wheel forward enough to clear, then just CMC and get it back to a more desirable 3ish deg.

Running 4* of caster and drives straight as a dart. Imo I wouldn’t run more than 4 but I do know some guys who have, but see no need to. If can can get 3-3.5 you should be good.

Thanks all. Definitely 265s :) I’m going to dig up my latest caster #s, by I did add dirt king UCAs earlier this year and I think I’m in the 2.8-3 range, it will triple check. I still haven’t found a good alignment tech. I feel like I’m talking a different language trying to ask them to start with the LCA and get past the “we just try to get it in spec” and “uh you’ve modded it” BS. I may reach out to the local ATX community and get some more recos and try again. Thanks again!!

Find an alignment shop that’s competent and experienced with AFTERMARKET UCA/suspension. It will make a world of a difference for you

Yeah, I’d have to say the alignment should fix your problem but it’s odd that just removing the sway bar did that. It would make sense if it were under articulation but for it to be on flat ground it shouldn’t have caused any rubbing issues. That’s what makes me think that somehow it has been knocked out of alignment for sure.

Yeah find a guy that strictly does alignments, It might be a little more but they will spend the time on your truck rather than just a toe n go.

OR find the DIY alignment thread. Once you wrap your head around it and have the proper straight edges n tools (less than the cost of one alignment) you can do it yourself pretty easy. Just re-aligned my truck yesterday after putting on new UCA's.

It's only under articulation -- no rubbing otherwise. But it doesn't take much articulation with turning so it could have gotten knocked off kilter. It drives great on the highway so who knows. If I didn't really dislike taking/putting on that swaybar I'd add it back and try the same route but I doubt that's happening lol.

I've thought about the DIY -- I've done everything else myself to this point, but for some reason I'm a bit too intimidated by this one.. I definitely like the idea of having more knowledge control over it ... hopefully for this one I'll find an aftermarket specialist that won't mind me hanging around and asking a few dumb questions.

    THANKS!

I found my alignment numbers. 3.2 and 3.3 caster. I’ll DIY alignment when I find some time and move the LCA forward. Having some fun this weekend gave me a clear picture where the problem lies lol.
