    Good afternoon/evening gentlemen.
Did any of you guys/gals own class 3 items (SBR’s, suppressors, SBS’s) while you were active duty? How did you handle it if/when you got orders to a place where they were illegal (California for example)?

My stuff is owned by a trust that includes myself, Dad, brother and a good friend. It basically was my way of giving myself four options of where to keep the stuff depending on what happened.

Good plan, I have all of my items in a trust also but wasn’t sure if there was a way to handle it as an individual without paying another transfer tax.

Can someone give a quick rundown on how barracks living works? I’ve heard it’s great for saving money.

Umm maybe when you first get in. But with BAH rates its better to find a few friends and rent a 3 bed house.

Interesting, after college I shared a 3 bed 3 bath apartment with 2 other guys and it wasn’t bad, the only bad part was food cost because I rarely ate at home.

What’s the worst part about it?

What are the barracks like? I saw a small portion of one when an AF buddy FaceTimed me but I’m completely ignorant, I’m looking into my service options because my LE career is not likely to happen past volunteer with the public sentiment towards them.

The barracks have also come a long, long way from what they used to be. I had open bays, bays with five other guys and two of us to a room with a shared bathroom with the room next door. Now most of the junior enlisted barracks are small apartments where each of them gets their own room split off from a common living room and kitchen area shared by two or three people.

That last part probably played a large role in the first part
I stay sober so it may not be as fun for me.

What branch? I was in barracks last in 1997...but prob still the same or similar. AF was only e1-e3 or maybe e4s in barracks. After E4 you typically get off moved off base. It was basics in the dorm, bed sink, toilet and shower. Not a lot of room. Room inspections common, smoke alarms going off at all types of hours from errors or drunks pulling the alarm. But you had 3 meals a day and midnight chow. Most dorms have outside entrance and no hallways any more some bases theres limited dorm space so you could end up off base from the time you arrive on base.

Once you were married you got off base or on list for base housing. Single didnt qual for base housing.

The last description sounds like where my buddy stayed for drill but he’s E-5, it looked like 2 beds in a room and I assume that he and his roommate had to share a bathroom, I should ask him about that.

Im looking into Coast Guard, good mix of SAR and LE, and I enjoy being on the water.
I have my associates degree and from the recruiter that I talked to I would go in E-3 and I look like a good candidate for OCS. Last year I took a practice ASVAB for giggles and my estimated score was mid 80’s if I remember correctly.

The smoke alarm probably wouldn’t bother me, a few years ago visiting Scotland I slept through a fire alarm until one of my travel companions flipped me off of the cot.
It doesn’t sound like a whole lot of fun though.
