    it had A turd in it! i dont want that hanta virus stuff wafting through my vehicle.

    True story:
    I forget which trip it was - my Utah trip in 2017 or my Dakotas trip in 2018 - but I had gone through and done a bunch of maintenance stuff on Runner in prep for the 2000+ miles trek. Brought him in for an oil change at the dealer's quick lube. Another, newer, silver Runner came in right after me that I didn't see. I had just gone through and checked all the lights, changed the filters, tires freshly rotated and balanced, topped off all the other fluids. They do the complimentary inspection and all. Guy at the counter tells me I need to change my air filters. Told him no freaking way, they're less than 48 hours old. Paid for the oil change went out to where they had parked Runner. Saw the other one up on the rack. Popped my air filter out and brought it back in. Told the kid that THAT was my air filter, no it doesn't need changed. And BTW, what Runner did they inspect? Turned out they hadn't even done the inspection on MY Runner (he didn't really need it) it was the other one. Just so happened that the manager of the service dept was there. He asked if I wanted my rig brought back in. Told him no, it was fine. I was just concerned that having two vehicles the same color and model but different years and trim in the shop at the same time threw them off. What if they had done the wrong services on my rig and it was more money? And the stuff I wanted done didn't get done? Pretty sure everyone there got a serious ass chewing after I left.

    I drive around 3K mile a year. I change them annually. If I go off-roading a lot I will check them more often. Definitely after a desert run, I will pull the engine air filter and blow it clean with a compressor.
