I've had sucess relieving muscle cramping, pain using Theraworx Relief.. a magnesium based foam, applied directly to the pain area. Works instantly. I keep a can close by, so I can catch a cramp when I first feel it coming on. Also works for wifes' leg, back cramps. A daily magnesium supplement has been suggested my doctor, but I can't take it. CVS Pharmacist sugessted this, and they didn't sell it, at the time. He was spot on right.

Main woodshed is the bay on the left , kindling goes in next tiny bay (have a few boxes of kindling stuffed in front at the moment) , next bay usually gets filled up with timber ends and lumber scraps for starters and beginning and end of season smaller fires

So I was doing a small bathroom repair job for a someone about 30 minutes from where I live and I stumbled across a guy in the same subdivision who's having some large oaks taken down behind his house and he just wants to get rid of the wood (he heats with a heat pump and a Natural Gas boiler). So as he's having the trees dropped I've been shuttling loads back to my place after work or on the weekends. So far I've got next year's wood stacked (mostly in cordwood length) and probably 1/2 of the year after that, and he's still got 2 more trees to come down this fall, and then another 4 or 5 once the ground freezes up so they don't have to worry about damaging his septic drain field. When it's all said and done I should have about 3 year's worth of high-output heating fuel out of it, and all it's cost me so far is about $50 in gas money and a 12 pack of Sam Adams

Picked up the last of the Oak for this fall. He'll be having more taken down once the ground freezes up this winter that I'll pick up either then or in the spring (depending on what we've got for snow cover at the time), but for now this is it.
Still though, this was load #5...

Honestly though I've got wood coming out of my ears right now; Now there's probably got 10 cord sitting in my 'wood yard' in either 4-foot or stove-length, between this guy and the rest of my scrounging from this summer. I've got two decent-sized Birches and some smaller Oaks/Maples that I'm taking down for my neighbor and working up this weekend. And then there's the 6 cord that's been in the shed since July, and another 2 cord of pine 'campfire wood' that's cut, split, & stacked down at camp. Plus the big stack of barked Pine & Poplar 4-footers that I've got set aside for next year's camp wood use/sales. Considering how hard it is to fill the woodshed just with scrounging some years, it's a good problem to have, but at the same time... :goingcrazy:

Finished stacking my oak haul, plus the Birch that I took down this weekend for the neighbor. The Maples are on hold for the moment due to a large-ish hornet's nest.

    20201011_164055_resized.jpg

    20201011_163922_resized.jpg

I've got all of next year's (winter of 21/22) wood plus at least half of the 22/23 winter's wood there. I still have those Maples and as I'd mentioned before the Oak guy has some more trees that he wants to take down over the winter/in the spring that he's promised me. So by the time it's all said and done I shouldn't have to worry about sourcing more wood until the winter of 24/25.
    :bananadance:

Of course, that probably won't stop me, if I find some more...

Lol I have an OWB. I burn oil up till it actually gets cold. Then I switch to pure wood.

I have an oil boiler but I don't even bother switching it on unless we're planning on not being around for a day or two during the cold months. I burn the pellet stove until it's cold enough to fire off the woodstove.

Yeah I'm probably going to put in a pellet stove to avoid using the oil. Of course when I switch on the oil I turn off my electric water heater so it gets offset a little.

I actually installed an electric water heater a couple of years ago, because I was tired of running the boiler just for hot water.

I think it's way more cost effective through the summer months to just pay a higher electric bill than have to deal with the maintenance of the boiler. Not to mention in most cases the electric heater is way more efficient.

If I was building a new house for myself right now I would use an air to water heat pump for hydronic in-slab heating and domestic hot water preheat

The water heater I installed is one of those hybrid heat pump/electric units. I've got it under the cellar stairs, so it's got plenty of heat to utilize from the stove during the winter, and during the summer it helps keep the humidity down.
