That's what I'm thinking at this point. Will forever remain a mystery as to what it was though.

I'll keep the chat posted if it happens again for some reason, but she seems to be doing just fine

Do you keep anything compressed or explosive under or behind your backseat? Fire extinguisher, can of soda, road flare (probably not that lol), device with lithium battery? Anything that could potentially rupture?

Subwoofer? Maybe it bit the dust?

if you don't find any signs of fluid, or running over anything consider something hit your truck. I've had birds and other not so smart animals fly into and run under my truck and make one hell of a noise. And so far no dents!

I do carry an extinguisher on that side of the truck but all looked well, and it has a "safety" latch on it to prevent it from doing that, although it's plastic and I could see how it could quickly let out some pressure

This reminds me of the old news story / urban legend of the poor woman who pulled over and called 911 because she though she just got shot in the back of the head. Turns out she had a bag of groceries in the back seat and the can of biscuits exploded, sending dough everywhere.

If it was the fire extinguisher you'd know... My dog somehow pulled the pin on mine when he hopped in. Damn near took all the oxygen out of my lungs, not a fun time...

quite a thread. OP do you have stock or aftermarket suspension? i ask because the only thing that hasn't been brought as a possibility (unless i missed it) is a shock or reservoir blew out. it could explain the wet wheel well and location. but if you don't have that kind of suspension nevermind.

Could the extinguisher contain Halon or similar agent, which is a gas and leaves no residue and is noncorrosive?

Near my place a lady in a small.car ran a light and hit a pickup truck. Truck guy ran over and thought she exploded with red stuff all over the inside and over her. She got up and rolled down the window and licked some jam off her face. She had just finished her canning that year.

Canopy, fitted seat covers, OBA with self leveling air bags, 100w solar, dual Rhino Rack Pioneer platforms, side & rear LED work/FU lights, CB, cell booster. 7x16 cargo conversion, 3" lift, 7'x6.5' fold down aluminum rear deck.
Loud bang, smoke inside cabin. I'm gonna go with a ruptured airbag inflator. Wet wheel well is unrelated.

Certainly possible, however I don't see how you wouldn't get an airbag code. That's does fit all the descriptions well. Might be a rear side airbag.

This is clearly a ARA incident. (Arkansas Roadside Attack). The Ozark's folks have devised a method of blowing up dead Armadillo's. The reason no smell was detected, was the typical 15 day roadkill smell delete. Thank you all.
