I like the way my truck drives now on 31’s and factory gears. I don’t want it to be geared lower, but am thinking of going up a size in tires to 275/70/17 (32”) when my tires wear out. I am not sure I want to go right to 4.88.

Is there any options for 4.56 out there for the larger (8.75”?) TRD Offroad e-locker diff?

I recall reading somewhere that there is a gear set for the Landcruiser that is the same, but not sure. Just wondering. Any info appreciated.

Toyota offers 4.56 on 8.75" in the Hilux. You can buy the gears, or the whole chunk.

I would think 4.30s would be bring you closer to factory and save you some RPMs on the highways. https://www.extremeterrain.com/nitr...ing-pinion-430-gear-ratio-gptaco2016-430.html

Relatively easy to order from overseas. I've dealt with all of the following companies Partsouq.com Carmarka.com Amayama.com en.impex-jp.com . Shop around, some have the parts, some don't, prices can vary widely... Partsouq ships the quickest, but they tend to be on the higher side.

You doing the labor yourself ? I'd do the plug and play calc and see if a 4.30 can get you where you wanna be from a junk yard somewhere in the US that can ship it. Or pick a pull or whatever near

I'd go with the 4.88 (maybe even 5.29) right of the bat. A gear swap is expensive and not something you'd want to do twice. It's probably a couple 100 RPM difference at highway speeds. You see complaints all the time about not enough gear but rarely too much.

Old saying from my N/A Cobra days was don't fear the gear.

4.88 at 75 with 32s = about 2230 RPMs. That's lower than a stock manual with 32 at about 2400. Unless I did the math wrong?

Also, if you choose 4.56, some of the 5th gen 4-Runner w/ 4 cylinder came w/ 4.56. Might be able to use the front diff.

4.88s with 32’s or 33’s is overgeared if you are going to be driving it on the highway. I was at around 2700 rpms at 70 mph if I believe. If you keep it around 60 you’ll be fine. I think 4.56 would be perfect for 33s.

But... you have a third gen so it’s much different. I haven’t heard anyone complain when regearing to 4.88 or 5.13 with a third gen

Also remember, difference between 4.56 and 4.88 at 70mph will probably be close to 150rpm. bet you wouldn't even tell the difference between the two. Not worth all the hassle of trying to find 4.56 when 4.88s are so readily available.

Meh I did, basically it was “here’s my opinion blah blah, oh by the way it’s completely irrelevant because I have a 2nd Gen,” when it could have read “I have a 2nd Gen so I can’t add much to this topic.”

    LOL

I’m truly sorry I wasted 3.5 whole seconds of your day. Oh please accept my apology...

To be fair, I didn’t even see it was third gen until after, and then I edited my post. But I decided to keep that info in case a second gen owner viewed the thread.

Also, who gives a shit. Maybe just ignore my comment then, and provide your insight.

You must be fun at parties.

    blah blah
