We had 4 man bays, but got into 2 man split rooms when we got back from Iraq. It sucked for us because the housing was civilian run (as cheap as possible) and we always got screwed over by our chain for contractor screw ups and lack of upkeep. I actually got smoked for water damage in a room on a floor that I didn't live on. Damage was because of the crack that went from the foundation to the roof and had 2 rooms on each of the 3 floors closed off. They had actually condemned the building and planned for destruction but didn't tell us. We didn't find out until they stopped tearing down the building across the quad halfway through. Turned out they were tearing down the wrong one...

Pretty much anything is better than I’m currently making, I’m currently a city employee with a little bit of seniority and E-3 with the 2020 pay rate is a hell of a jump for me. My biggest concern is my debt but in the next week I’m going to be looking for better paying jobs and start knocking out the debt.
Thanks! I’m looking forward to what the future holds.

Good lord that sounds like a clusterfuck , I’ve heard from my sisters coworker that base housing at Keesler is also a cluster, lots of mold issues and it doesn’t get resolved quickly.

Do they still have IG’s? If so dump your issues on them. That’s what they’re for. If you have a good one (looking for promotion) stuff gets done.

Pardon my ignorance but what are IG’s? Sounds like someone I need to find, I appreciate the tip.

Junior enlisted life in a seagoing service isn't the same experience that our land-based brethren have. You need to be asking what it's like to live on a ship, not what it's like to live in barracks. For example, when alarms go off on the boat, sleeping through them is a very bad thing for a whole lot of reasons.

Hey we barely count - plus once the nonrates get qualified they get leased housing or something ...

You know what's worse is when you're in ops berthing and the mains shut down. Wide Awake.

Almost 35 years in the navy, mostly at sea.... I can sleep through a nuclear blast, but if main vent crashes? Wide awake and dressed inside of 30 seconds. As my wife when she turned the fan off in the bedroom in the middle of the night a while ago!

Oh yeah, that M-117A was the most comfortable mask by far. Changing filters was annoying, but man could you sleep comfy in that mask.
