I posted a thread a while back about how my truck got broken into for the third time, all valuables stolen, etc. Well, since then I got a Clifford alarm installed. Figured I had over $2K worth of stuff stolen over the various break-ins, so dropping $500 on an alarm was justified.

Well, this morning at 3:45am I was awakened out of a sound slumber to the racket of my car alarm going off. I darted out of bed to the front door and saw a dark figure running away down the street. Had it not been 15 degrees out with ground covered in snow and ice, I would have chased that mofo down with a tire iron. Luckily my truck was unaffected. Thank you Mr. Clifford!

Rewind to yesterday morning -- I was driving to work and my hood popped by itself while I was driving across a bridge. I pulled over on the other side of the bridge to get out to latch my hood, and noticed that the latch cable was out of it's stops. I wonder if somebody had tried to break into my engine compartment the night before to try to cut my alarm wiring...???

Its possible... but how would they open the hood with out gaining access to the interior? I'm sure the pros can figure away. Is there a way to arm the hood too?

Dunno. The cabin end of the latch cable where it is connected to the hood lever under the steering column was undone from the lever itself, and about 3" of cable was sticking out into the cabin. Have no idea how that could have happened, but it seems awfully coincidental that this happened the day before I witnessed somebody trying to break in. Maybe it had come undone from being tampered with under the engine compartment somehow...? Although I can't really see how. That cable is pretty well protected inside the engine compartment.

I missed the latch portion...They probably tried to defeat it. That sucks dude, at least they didn't get anything.

Holy cow, what neighborhood do you live in??? So I can avoid it!

That sucks, it sure seems like you are having a run of bad luck with your truck, between the break-ins and the lift vibes.

I've put off getting an alarm system, but with all of the break-ins lately it might just be my next purchase.

I have a possible solution if you have an alarm system in your house...
Connect a wireless door contact to your dome light. Program that into your house alarm as a 24hr zone so the alarm shows a trouble condition w/o sending a report. This will tell you in the house that someone is in your truck so you can follow up with the tire iron method. Just make sure the wireless contact has aux. contacts that you can wire into.
Let me know if you need more explanation.

I would love to look out the window and see someone around my truck. They would have a little red dot from my crimson trace laser grip positioned on them. I am thinking this would make them stand still long enough to call the local police.

Wow, that's a really good idea. I do have an alarm in my house that this could be done with (ps., my house has been ransacked twice in the 5 years that I have lived there  ). I'm going to look into this idea. Thanks for the thought!

Ironically, it's one of the nicer neighborhoods of Seattle. I am friendly with all my neighbors and nobody on my block has ever had a break in since living there. I'm apparently the only one, and I've had my truck broken into 3 times now, and my house broken into twice. FTW!!
