I have a '96 Tacoma with over 500,000kms that I love. I got it a few years ago for $700 and the only work I had to do until now was put on new brake rotors and pads... but now I have a decision to make.

From some really rough offroading, and not noticing that the frame was getting really rusty, I've got a nasty crack in the frame where the leaf spring schackle connects. I was thinking of getting it repaired (quote $1500) but then it started dumping oil. All seals, everywhere are leaking. It'll be a total rebuild to fix all the engine leaks. At the moment it runs great, except for the fact that I can't take it anywhere because of the crack in the frame. Body's rusted, other things will go soon I'm sure. Spend the money and get the frame and motor fixed ($5000 or more) or let it go? In BC you can't get a Tacoma of that age for less than $8,000 and I barely have the 5. What would you guys do? What are your experiences with dying Tacoma's.

    Thanks for your thoughts.

Well, I mean that the $5000 would be to fix the leaks and the frame.

Instead of spending that much money on a truck with that many miles, rusted body and rusted frame, get something a little nicer and finance part of it. Keep what you have and you’re gonna see a landslide of issues.

    I’d personally let it go.
It’s lived a good long life, let it retire.

    And welcome to TW.
