    Hey everybody ,

I'm experiencing an issue on my 2010 Tacoma about 176,000. So the shake on the steering wheel (its not the balancing) I ruled that out already. I feel it shaking once I get to 70-80 mph on the highway.

Not its not consistent, its weird I feel it shaking from the steering wheel to the pedals. Can it be the steering column or the rack and pinion?

Thought it was the shocks changed it same problem.

    Let me know!

I would only rule out the issue with wheel/tire balancing if this was performed with road force balancing.

I ruled out the rims and tires because I balanced them myself. No damage on the rims either. (Forgot to mention I have a tire shop)

I replaced the ujoints possibly 6 months ago. I remember the problem with those it would make a low noise everytime I would accelerate so its not that.

I looked at that link, I'm going to get under the car and see if they need more grease.

So you guys don't think its the rack and pinion? Is there a way I can place a video here?

Sending a WeTransfer Link so you guys can check it out. Its 2 videos of the wheel shaking. Mind you accelerating or not it still shakes. The shaking does not feel like the whole car just the steering wheel itself.

I get a similar shake but not as bad as yours with my 2010 after I put my summer rims and tires on .
I found out the hard way that our Tacomas use hub centric rims rather than lug centric like the aftermarket rims i put on the truck
I had to resort to finding a tire shop that used a genuine Haweka adapter followed by road force balancing .
I doubt your vibe has anything to do with the rack and pinion . The pulsation in your video looks to be caused by the rotating speed of a tire or the driveshaft .
With this being said , does the vibration change when you remove the jeep floormats ? hehe pun intended :p
Oops , does the vibration change if you add some weight in the box of the truck ? adding weight changes the driveline angle and its an easy test . Just wondering if your rear leaf springs are factory original and possibly all sagged out

I think its the jeep floor mats the issue.:rofl: So someone suggested the tie rods I have to check and see.

Tie rods and the bearings on the drive shift see if they're greased. ‍:fingerscrossed: keep you guys updated

Just started really getting steering wheel shaking. Replace the outer tierods today. It made a huge difference but I can still feel the vibration. I think it's the ball joints next. So I'm looking at Moog LCA's and options for UCA's.

Also, I grease the yoke on the driveshaft with the Ford grease I found on another thread but did nothing.

Hey gents, so update on the truck. Went back to the shop and I have pictures that seem like the cause of the problem.

As for the pictures, do I need to just replace the boot where it's been cracked?

And the images behind the rims. Is this the inner rod or outer?

Can any of this be the cause of the shaking?

Thanks, I got some shakes in the steering wheel too, popped up after a tire rotation. I might need to get them rebalanced.

OP, the leaking boot on the tire rod tells that you got a case of bad rack. Unfortunately, I do not believe the inner seal is an easy fix without removing the rack and even then the FSM shows it to be a nightmare IMHO because I believe the entire rack has to be taken apart and there are a number of special tools. Might want to source a new rack.

Gotta replace the entire thing sadly when there are torn boots. It’s easier this way anyhow

How old are your tires? I had a shaking steering wheel and it was the tires, the belts had separated.
