TRD offroad and pro use hydro boost systems, so yea it gets expensive compared to the vacuum assist systems on the sr, sr5, sport, and limited.

Yeah these electric booster/MC runs more than just brakes, it does the A-TRAC or Crawl Control too

 

The "master cylinder" in these trucks contains 12 solenoids, a hydraulic manifold, an electric motor driving a hydraulic pump, an accumulator, pressure sensors, the skid control ECU, and a master cylinder. It provides normal braking, brake boost, ABS, EBD, brake assist, traction control, VSC, A-TRAC, MTS, etc. functions. It's a bit more than your run of the mill master cylinder. It's impressive how seldom they do fail.

Yep, its expensive piece of tech. At least its not like the old chevy 1500 hydro boost system that required you remove the dash just to replace it.

 

Wow that sounds like a major pain in the ass, guess something like that picked up boost from power steering or something?

 

I think so, not sure how the thing worked, but I used to have to take them out of trucks when I worked at the junk yard... first one sucks, each one after that got easier.

 

Yeah once you figure out a few shortcuts it probably wasnt as bad, still would want to change one after hearing that, also have no desire to own a GM truck either lol.

 

I'd be more concerned about the Hydroboost architecture. If your PS pump or hoses fail, you lose power steering and power brakes simultaneously.

 

The MC is not Hydroboost on the Tacoma, its electric.

 

I was referring to the GM implementation, hence the 'H' was capitalized.
