How does "rolling resistance" play into this? I know that my current set of Michelin LTX-2s "feel" more resistant to my butt dyno than the previous two sets of essentially the same tire.
Maybe OP's new tires don't simply roll as easy as the old set.

So if you want to loose some weight, go up in altitude.

I mean, it's a tiny amount given r changes from 41,801,760 feet to 41,807,040 feet (0.01%)

 

It plays a role, sure. The weight plays the biggest role because of inertia. It's hard to get those pigs rolling from a stop, so the motor works harder and sucks more gas. So E rated tires suck the most in city driving/stop and go traffic.

At consistent highway speeds there's going to be less of an influence from the weight, and more from the rolling resistance.

 

Can you reliably measure your gas mileage to 0.01% accuracy (you'd need greater accuracy, actually, like .001%), and control all the other variables that have a much higher impact on efficiency (like air/fuel ratio)?

Hey sorry for the late reply. I used to have two stock BFG A/Ts and two aftermarket A/Ts on it from the previous owner, 265/70/16 stock size. The tires were so worn down Pep Boys wouldn't patch them. I had Falken Wildpeak H/Ts put on. They ride better than the worn A/Ts, but I'm getting almost 100 miles less per tank. I called the store and they said they've never heard of that issue with these tires. WTH???

 

So what's that in % loss? For me, that'd be like a 40% drop, and there's no way tires alone would cause that high of a drop in mileage.

I think you need to look into other causes of poor fuel economy.

 

Yeah, I don't know what could cause it right after I have them change my tires. Nothing else has changed on the truck. Maybe someone siphoned my gas... lol. I will continue to keep an eye on it and report back after the next tank

 

Yeah, don't just go by one tank. Once you get a couple tanks in at least. Then maybe start thinking about other things to check.

Could easily be a coincidence that there are other things wrong, too.

That said, I typically get about 220 or so per tank for city driving in my 4x4 with 32" E rated A/T's.

Yeah it was off by a few fractions of an inch. It was my first time having an alignment done on a vehicle, so I only understood what the tech explained to me.
