    Have a 1 month old 4cyl (I know, I know) AT SR.
I've noticed during long uphill drives (mountain passes and other steady inclines) there is often a burning smell coming from the engine area. If it wasn't an AT I would say with almost total certainty that it was clutch...Not towing or carrying any significant weight, and I do my best to hold a single gear to minimize up/down shifts.
Any thoughts on what might be going on? I'm heading in to get it checked out later this week but the more info I have before hand the better

Bone stock?? Are your temps where they are supposed to be?

At only one month, it could just be the "New" burning off. Keep an eye on oil consumption and check for any fluid on the engine.
Bottom line. If you think something's wrong take it to the dealer and make them look at it.

sounds like an oil leak. is your oil cap tight? dipstick pushed all the way in? any noticeable drips on the ground?

Looked under the hood for leaking fluid?

Totally stock, temps have been fine. Fluids look to be fine.
Hoping the dealer can get to the bottom of it!

My bet it's just assembly residuals on the block / exhaust burning off, and the smell will quit when it's all gone.

Dealer will not be able to replicate.

Hope so. Any reason this would happen during hill/mountain pass climbing?

Constant load keeps it at full operating temp for a longer period than easy peasy driving. The external surfaces are the last to get hot.

My v6 had the same thing, only after a good hard run or up hill.

Went away after a couple thousand miles

    Huh, weird .. I've got a month-old SR 4x4 also (2.7) ... 1,200 miles. (Hey don't apologize for the 4 cyl .. I ordered mine with a 4 cyl on purpose.. 26 mpg so far..)
    Nothing like that at all.
I haven't done any real looong uphill runs, although I have taken it up some forestry roads that went from 2K in elevation to about 6K in elevation... Never noticed anything out of the norm ...
Might give it a bit of more miles/time and see what happens? IDK ....
I get your concern though ... I'd be a bit freaked-out too if I had a brand new truck and started smelling funny smells...

I have the sr 2wd and I do notice when I visit my sister that lives in the mountains, I have to go up and downhill a lot and press the gas more than usual and smell the coolant from the bottle from the bottle near the front of the engine.

it's the blood, sweat, and tears of thousands of factory workers burning off the engine.

I'll tell you what stinks is overspray from cosmoline, or fluid film on any part of the exhaust.

Do they really still use that stuff? Cosmoline? Man, I thought that was 1920's technology.. LOL! (I did spend some time cleaning it off some old rifles I bought though... Stuff is a PITA cleaning off...)

    2.7 is solid...no need to feel shame. I have a 2.7 with a 5spd.
