Here’s a drop from 2 winters ago. The barrel never showed up but I remember this drop so vividly. the day before this I almost drowned at an offshore reef. I called in sick the next day because I was so rattled, then the boys forced me to come out at this slab that morning, and i was all better. Some swells just stick with you forever and this was one like that.

I love new surfers with foam boards because I can watch them go for a wave on my paddle out, watch them eat shit instantly. Then I know I can drop in on them and not feel bad because I know they’ll eat shit.

Lineups are always getting more and more crowded. It’s why I don’t surf much in the summer (and because it usually sucks). A new surfer isn’t going to drop hundreds on a new or even a used board. These guys complaining about foamies are the same ones complaining how other people spend their money on Kings and overland gear to keep their trucks on the street. Just let people enjoy their lives and have fun surfing. Quit gate keeping

I could care less what people ride, just don't ride them at the main surf breaks when your learning or just started surfing. You can go straight on any beach anywhere. Between beginner soft tops, dads pushing their kids in on people on peak waves, and novice paddle boards it's a dangerous situation. If you run over someone's soft top who didn't duck dive and throws their board who pays for it? White belts don't roll with black belts in any other sport.

What's funny is I've surfed plenty other places around the world with much better waves that don't have this problem at all. If a "kook" paddles out and ruins locals waves they are kindly told to get the fuck out of the water and the problem is solved lol.

I love to laugh at the guys who go to a well known spot for beginners, tourists and surf schools and then bitch about them.

Well seeing as I live in Huntington, there is no good break. It’s the same shitty wave from essentially San Clemente all the way up until Rincon. The jetties get slightly good on perfect conditions. The only legit spot is Trestles, and I rarely see beginners there, granted I never go because it’s too fucking crowded anyways.

You guys are lucky you have so many spots. Haha. In Florida we have maybe 3 breaks on the whole east coast within a 4 hour drive. We used to have more but in the last 10 years the tide is so much higher, only a few of the inlets work anymore. The rest is a wasteland.

I vote the poles #1 then Sebastian’s inlet. It’s a toss up for the 3rd best in Florida. Ga coast is shit. As for soft top boards. I just bought my first. It is a blast to ride. And I am probably going to buy another. I’m never going to get a true long board(gross) but a 6 or 7’ soft top can catch anything.

I never thought I’d be into longboards either and then I bought one. So much fun. Wait till you’re older and not as nimble as your younger years and I’m sure you’ll be on a long board. I’m slowly gravitating towards mid length boards as I don’t surf enough and am not good enough for true short boards

There are many great breaks along that route, mainly point breaks in Los Angeles/ Ventura, but they too get way too crowded. We have the same problem here in SD which is why I [refer to go to Baja when I can.

I’d definitely argue that San Diego doesn’t have this problem. The diversity of wave types is incredible for one stretch of coast.

my wife is from the Basque Country, and they certainly receive more swell, and their best waves are certainly better than ours, but San Diego has more variety and more spots than most anywhere I’ve been.

Anyone here have a Roberts dream machine, meat cleaver or dream maker? Talking to a local shaper about getting a similar shape done, just like to know how you like it. Winter is coming

New Smyrna would have to be number 1. It's rideable 300 days a year.

I dont have either one but they are all very different designs. Roberts is a great surfer/shaper and would go direct if you like a bit of each one.
