Upgrade your battery to an AGM style with a higher AH capacity and add in a solar system like this one. Worked great for me for a while. As long as you aren't trying to run crazy amounts of electronics and constantly parking under the trees and not driving it should be fine for now.

Damn thats a heck of a price range. The 261 should be in the 550-650 range depending on dealer, but its a beast for firewood purposes.
$1000 puts you into a 461, thats what we run on the fire engines.
Keep in mind the more cutting you do the more grateful you are to have the HD/Pro line saw vs. the use it a few times a year for a couple branches.
And if you dont truly have a need for the 20" bar it will move the 18" @ higher RPM and be a little more efficient.
But I got the 20" just because it's bigger;)

I have a MS-251 Woodboss. I like it and it's done what I've asked of it. I mean, I'm not taking down big stuff, but medium sized taller trees and it cuts right through. Getting rid of the chain it came with made it much better. And remember to sharpen frequently. These are the lessons I've learned owning my first saw.

Yes, dont get the low kickback chain, it'll take double the time to cut anything.

Yup. That's what the thing came with. Switched it out to an eater chain and never looked back.

My buddy who was going to go with me fell through, so I am considering cancelling the big trip, doing a smaller one (a week or so), and then doing the big trip out there in May when school is out. Gives me more time to prep and get everything ready on the truck.

Been running both of these for a year an a half. I just changed the battery this month to a Die Hard group 24. Got the battery from Advance Auto for about $65. I just run a 12v plug for my fridge, bed rail lights, and a battery monitor off of the battery. I also have the capability to add 3 other things. I plan on running a camp/kitchen light soon. And Im probably not even going to add a relay. Just switch - blue sea - battery. Should be good.

Anyone going to mobtown this week or has something that needs to get brought back to va? My skidplate took longer than anticipated and wasn't done over the summer break. Trying to see if anyone is heading there this week or I might be heading there Friday myself after the dc airshow if work let's me off the hook.

I ordered my rear bumper from them in May (advertised lead time was 12 weeks then). We are now on week 18 and they told me Friday it'd be another 6-8 weeks. I get the whole covid situation holds them up with companies they partner with, so not them to blame. How backed up was your skid?

I have my stock starting battery. And then I have that Die Hard group 24 that just relies on solar to get recharged. Its not linked to the main battery at all

Gotcha. Are they next to each other under the hood or do you have the accessory battery elsewhere?
