USB connector

Does anyone know if there's an adaptor that will allow usb connection via stock radio on 2004?

Does anyone know if my 1998 has the "CD port" on the back of the head unit?

 

Um, no, we don't know. Is there a button/control on the front that indicates you can change CDs? What is the model number on the front of the HU?

 

I had no idea that a "CD port" on the back of the head unit had anything to do with a CD changer.

No need to apologize! There are several different HU models in my owner's manual (which I have not looked at recently), and I am not sure that if it has a CD player in the front, it means that it also has a port for the CD changer option in the back (CD port), which is where these adapters plug into. I have been looking at getting an iPod adpater too. So if you ahve the HU model numebr, we can figure this out, I think.

 

And like I keep saying whenever faced with this decision... I'll just stick with ol' faithful

 

I tried tracking down one of the Grom units but could'nt get any answers from the manufacture or thier dealers. Infact, to get in contact with the manufacture you have to email and wait for a response which I did and have not received a response after 2-days.

After searching for other brands I ran acrosss the Dice unit. I'm glad I did-the Dice unit offers a great deal more such as; Bluetooth music streaming, bluetooth phone capabilites along with USB, Iphone/Ipod, Aux jack and Satelite radio. Another plus for me is that the manufacture was right in Long Beach, Ca so I was able to pickup the device and save on shipping.

The install took about 20 minutes and I know can enjoy the music on my HTC Evo and make and recieve calls all via bluetooth!

Oh, one thing I want to note. If you have an 04 or earlier Tacoma be sure to let them know you need the older wiring harness. My box included the new harness so I had to make another trip to get the correct one. I guess it was good that they were only 13 miles away.

You're looking for something called the Kensington PowerBolt. USB. Tiny. It fits discretely into the 12v cigarette lighter and is nearly invisible. I love mine.

just get an aftermarket cd player with a usb port. the new cd player will sound better than stock.

 

Their website does not list compatibility for the 2004 Tacoma, how is this working for you? Can you see text on the factory HU? Does your HU look like this?

 

My radio is the same as the one pictured. The USB works good however it does not display any text.

 

so are you controlling everything with your phone then? does the music auto mute for a phone call? I have an iPhone and hope it will do that. What are you using for a mic for bluetooth phone call, the one on the phone?

The unit comes with a Mic that you mount on the window pillar. I connect my Evo via bluetooth and I can make and receive calls and listen to my music. One cool feature is that I can control my song selection and volume from my Evo even if I'm 20 feet from the truck. I also use it with my phones navigation for audio. The system will mute for incoming calls but it doesn't return to music after the call is terminated.
