I was just trying to haggle a guy down to $100 yesterday for this set! He wouldn't go below $120 and I'm trying really hard to reduce my spending, so I had to pass.

The complete lack of updates other than a shipping notice was the worst.

At last, it is complete (sans rigging, sails, and a crew). I present "Ship 02". I ran out of naming creativity after my first ship; suggestions welcome.

    20200922_205954.jpg

I wanted to try to make a brick-built hull rather than relying on Lego's prefab sections, though an upper bow piece was used to shape the lower bow. Doing so allowed for a wider design - roughly 20 studs at widest compared to the standard 16. Weighing in at roughly 2700 bricks, she is 21" long at the waterline and 32" overall.

    20200922_210201.jpg

    20200922_210252.jpg

There is a full interior featuring a capstan, galley stove, captain's quarters, and twelve cannons.

    20200922_194518~2.jpg

The guns are brick built instead of using actual Lego cannons.

    20200922_210108.jpg

Lastly, a couple shots next to the new Barracuda and my first ship, Valkyrie.

I wish I had the pictures still, maybe my folks do, but when we were kids (early/mid 90s) one of my brother and my jobs at Christmas was to make the lego village for around the Christmas tree. We'd start as soon as the tree went up and make houses and stores and a train. Sometimes space ships or boats found their way in there too. And since we had tons of those green and tan plastic army figures, we'd usually make a battlefield too with lego fortifications and tanks and whatnot.
30 some odd years later, I still have a few big rubbermaid bins full of all my legos. All the instruction manuals and whatnot. GF and I are in our mid 30's now, and I still get her one big lego piece every Christmas. Last year she got an X-wing, and she got me a neat 4x4 with a search and rescue boat.

I already ordered the star wars advent calendar for her this year.

Good thread, legos were a huge part of my childhood.

give mom and dad a call, they'll be more than happy to dig through the photo albums.

what sort of sets from your childhood do you have and why aren't they built now?

I'll ask my mom to see what she has!

Boy, let me see if I can dig back. I had a lot of the space sets from the 90s, white and purple decals. Tons of pirate stuff, the islands, ships, etc. Probably one whole big rubbermaid bin full of just assorted building blocks that were bought over the years. A couple of the jungle adventure platforms. Then when the nautical stuff became popular I begged for the submarines and undersea sets.

I went through (and still am) an aircraft and boat phase. There's container ships, pleasure boats, all sorts of planes and helicopters.

Don't have much of the normal city type stuff. Mostly adventure type sets. I'll go take a picture of a few I have built sitting around the house :D

So we're basically children still in our mid 30's.

Edit: All those crystals and quartz rocks aren't for any sort of weird religious purposes lol. We live about 8 miles from a quartz mine, and spend a lot of weekends up there digging up crystals.
