5000 mile service

Had my 2010 dbl TRD Sport done this weekend at the dealership. Took about an hour. Here's a list of what they said was done:

1. oil & filter change
2. replace oil pan screw
3. checked and replinished fluids (washer)
4. 27 point inspection
5. car wash

The invoice showed an initial total of $140. Of course I didn't pay a dime. Service Mgr. says I have (5) more free service appointments. I'm sure glad, 'cause that's a lot for what amounts to a oil change.

Anyway, the next service is due at 9500 miles.

 

Why did they have to replace the oil pan screw?

 

That's a good question. But I don't know. I didn't read the darn invoice until I got home; and by then they were closed. I plan to call 'em up Monday morning to find out. I'll post their response when I find out.

 

Maybe they ment that washer that is suposed to be replace every time that goes on the screw?

 

That make's more sense to do; rather than change the screw. Probably cheaper too! Hey mom. Look! I'm rappin' .

 

crush washer may come shrink wrapped with a new oil pan drain screw, so it's easier for the dealer to swap the plug when all that's called for is a new crush washer ...

Yeah this is what I am thinking too. Dang all that came out to $140!!! What a jip!!!

 

Just did my 5000 mile change here a couple of months ago and they included the tire rotation....

 

Another question, why next service at 9500 miles? Why not 10,000? And I wish my dealer would wash my truck. They are behind the times on that.

Ya kind of seems like they are jipping you out of 500 miles. Plus its easier to remember at each 5000 mark too. Atleast for me anyway.

 

Your right. I see on the invoice that they rotated the tires also. The service reminder sticker reads 9985. 10k would be easier to remember.

 

My dealer charges $69 with tire rotation. $140 is RAPE.
Do you have free service for 25K miles that started after I got my 2010?
If so maybe the dealer is jacking it up to get reimbused from Toyota mothership.

It was probably just the drain plug gasket.. when we do a 5k service it is an oil change and USUALLY a tire rotation (if its needed).. check and top off fluids obviously oil change is about 30 bucks.. and rot is about 25... so not sure where the 140 comes in... maybe there charging toyota alot for that car wash....

 

i bring my own mobil 1 oil and trd filter. My dealer charges me $12 for labor.

 

what type of oil did they use?

 

DUR.. so the oil wouldn't come out.

I replace the oil plug (i assume plug) most of the time when changing oil.

Like to pour it down my driveway every once in a while though.

The point in bringing your car to the dealer is.. you pay all that money.. (at point of service or during initial sale.. nothing is free) so you don't have to think about it. Though, I thought all toyotas as well as scions gave you the free oil changes for the first 3 years or something.. is that just me? Not that I'd ever use em.. I'm not so full of free time that I would ever get an oil change done for me.

 

Toyota 5W30 & Toyota filter. The only problem is that the filter is black, which makes it difficult to Sharpie the date.
