Finished the siding last weeked. Soffits, tiny deck, stringers and she’ll be done enough for winter. New insulations already doing its job compared to this time last year after the 38 degree snap last night. Was nice and toasty inside.

Sorry, the simple bulb swap was buried in the end of the post. Here you go.

    Stock wattage performance bulbs
Stock wattage high performance bulbs do not actually put out more light, instead they use smaller high precision filaments to make the light more focused and intense for the headlight to use more efficiently and project a brighter hotspot further. You can see an short article by Philips explaining how these bulbs work here.

These are currently the highest performing stock wattage bulbs on the market:
Which bulb is best? Depends on your needs. The +150 bulbs are going to provide excellent low beam performance, but coat the high beam reducing performance. The Philips are rated at 200hrs. The GE +120s have a blue coating on the tip but leave both the low and high beam uncoated giving superior high beam performance with a slightly lower low beam performance over the other bulbs. You can compare lux performance over stock in the above charts.

    Philips vs Volsa:
While Osram and Philips are constantly compared and about equal when running the latest version of each bulb, I hadn't seen any comparison with Volsa +100, which was marketed as a replacement to the outgoing 70w Osrams. So I took the opportunity to compare them on a 1st Gen later in the thread here.

Note that Sylvania Silverstars (different than Osram Silverstars) are not on the list, as a fully coated stock wattage bulb is lower performing. The Silverstar XZE have an output of 1500/910 lumens and a life of 150hrs.
Here is a breakdown from Candlepower.

    Bunch of Basic Taco mods.
Got to give the truck a once over tomorrow after work. Fluids, tire pressures, clean the glass. About to drive six hundred miles one way to North Carolina to meet a bunch of friends for a long weekend camping.

And packing. Lots and lots of packing.

    Making some good progress.

All your hard work is already paying off. When winter is here you'll have low heating bills.

Did you go with the fiberglass insulation or the recycle cotton insulation?

    Thanks for the link!

By what you posted it seems like the Philips will be the better option. I don't use the high beam much.

Is there any pure white bulbs available? Not something that has a yellow(ish) or blue(ish) tint.

The woodstove helps with the heating bills but it was where I was depending on the thing as a primary source of heat. Im still gonna use it because theres nothing like being in zero degree temps and walking into a house with a woodstove and warming your bunz up next to it.

I did the whole house in Roxul.

Congrats! So exciting! I love babies. I have three daughters and when they were little, mom always had to “ask for a turn” holding the baby. Do lots of skin to skin and feedings and rocking to sleep...you will end up with a daddy’s girl in no time.

I’ve been kinda scarce lately. Last Thursday I started passing a large kidney stone. Monster pain. Then it stopped. Stone got stuck. Doesn’t hurt much when not moving. I had to work on site yesterday and ended up getting my 10k steps in. As soon as I got home, stone started to move again. Blinding pain. Was in the ER all night. Stone has about another inch to go to enter my bladder. The last 1/4 inch is the worst. Doc gave me the strongest Percocet for that. Ugh! Tacoma kept me safe driving to and from the ER both times.

Never experienced one, but I have a friend who has had several. Terrible pain.

Any chance they can try to ultrasonic it and help break it up?

Medical group I’m part of doesn’t do the ultrasonic tubs anymore. There is too much risk of damaging the surrounding organs and tissue. They usually do laser treatments, but only for stones larger than 5mm. Mine is a 3.5mm barbed stone. Hurts like hell and is constantly getting stuck. A few stones ago, I had a nurse that had 11 children and over 20 grandchildren. She said that she had to have an emergency C section done without meds and she felt like the pain from that was almost as bad as a large stone like I was passing at that time (5.5mm, passed it 20 minutes before surgery was scheduled to begin). She had chronic stones like I do, so I was confident that her assessment was true.
