I hope you don't ever have to get to your pistol quickly, but cool mod nonetheless!

Ummm... yeh, it only gets locked up when I have to leave it in the vehicle because it's not legal to carry where I'm going. That's actually really rare. Usually my piece is on my hip or tucked beside the seat. I use the box mostly to lock up my Garmin, ipod, etc.

What I love about your design is the ability to store a few small items outside the locked container. Something the consul vault product does not offer.

I just might need to learn how to weld. Great project.

Unfortunately, with a 6 month old I don't have much (any) garage time these days. Also, if I started making money off of it I'd have to deal with potential patent issues from the console vault guy. Am very willing to help someone make one if they're in the area (once the weather warms up a bit).

Thanks man. That was an important part for me. Opening the console and the vault every time you need your tire pressure gauge etc would get annoying.

Grabbing myself a GunVault NV100 after seeing this. Perfect for those times drinking at the bars, going into any government buildings, etc.. where you need to leave your gun in the car. Glovebox / under the seat always made me uneasy. One could just break the glass and boom, untraceable pistol now in their possession.

Keep in mind anyone following in my footsteps, the cable these things come with is 1500 pound tested. Any "smart" thief isn't going to try and tow it off, they'll cut it with bolt cutters. So either get something to guard against that (put it in hard to reach place so bolt cutters can't reach), bolt it to the floor, sideways in the center console, etc...

Great job! At first I was thinking, "what the hell is this piece of crap he's making?" Now all I want to do is learn how to weld and fashion up a "lockable possession and firearms box". - I don't want to anger the "vault" people.

LMAO! That's what the wife said too. Now she keeps reminding me that I need to take it out to put in the 2012 when it gets here...

^ ^ x2 --- i was acutally going to purchase one from that company until he tossed the "patent" jargon into the mix.

Anyone make these besides Console Vault? Wife and I are looking into our CCW's now, and something like this would be great....for less than $200. :D
