My truck has a little over 170K miles on it now and has been running synthetic since 10K with changes every 5K. No abnormal issues, I did reseal both valve covers at 160K but that seems unrelated to running synthetic it's whole life. Cam box looked spotless when I had the VC off.

    That was a steal!

It looks like synthetic is actually comparable or even cheaper than conventional oils these days.
    Castrol 6144 Conventional Motor Oil, 32. Fluid_Ounces $8.40
    Mobil 1 5W-20 Advanced Synthetic Motor Oil - 1 Quart $6.97

I saw that deal but I figured I have enough chit in my garage already so I passed. I'll pay the extra dollar or two a quart 1x a year when my truck is ready for that oil change.

I'm with you on not storing a metric ton of stuff just to save a couple bucks over the next 10 years.

I know oil doesn't really go "bad" but all I thought of when I say all those quarts was that 5 gallon tub of mayonnaise you get from Costco.

I run synthetic in every vehicle I own. I live in Minnesota where it gets to be 25 below zero Fahrenheit. I want my engines to turn over without scraping metal off the cylinder walls.

In the days of my youth when synthetic was rare/expensive, I had friends break crankshafts trying to turn engines over in that sort of weather with conventional oil.

The benefits of synthetic oil are sometimes subtle but they are real.

I've been using non synthetic 5w-30 Pennzoil in my 1996 for 415,000 trouble-free miles. I've never had a cover off, no leaks and will only burn about 1/4 quart over my 5000 mile oil change interval.
Why would I switch to synthetic? Obviously no need for it.

I do use Mobil1 in my '18 Tacoma and '17 Grandsport Corvette.

bought my truck with 80k miles on it. been using full synthetic ever since, book says 7500 miles for oil change. I usually run
wal mart brand synthetic or what's on sale with toyota filters. Just about to hit 140k miles. The engine should just about be broken in
by now. Never had any problems so far. She needs new valve cover gaskets, maybe next spring.

I'm thinking about T6 for the 2UZ with 235,000 miles.

I have another change of Toyota oil for the 5VZFE in the garage. The Taco engine only has 75,000 miles now. Very lightly driven at less than 4,000 miles in a year.

I use this Gas Truck oil in my high revving Nissan VQ engines that like to shred oil.

It's one of the few oils that they like outside of some $11 per quart ester oil.

I go to autozone and see what deals they have running on 5 quart jugs of synthetic high mileage oil...it's usually Mobil 1 Full Syn High Mileage and an STP or Mobil 1 oil filter for like $25-$35

Been doing this for 30k miles and no issues.

Rubber bits degrade with age, heat and exposure to UV light.

Assuming original rubber material was suitable to oil exposure and is in good condition, then there should not be any leaks changing to a syn oil from a dino oil.

I've got syn oil in all my engines. Lawnmower, snowblower, '81 motorcycle, 2 CUVs and 1 Tacoma. Been running on 100% syn for as long as I remember......never had oil related issues.

I run AMSOIL for the extended drain interval. My Tacoma is an RV and not my daily driver so it sees few miles.
The oil in the report only had 3323 miles but was 1 1/2 years old. I had the oil analyzed to see if it is safe to go 2 years.
    Looks like I can.

I now use a synthetic blend. It's significantly cheaper and I can still go a year between oil changes. Having to stay with only synthetic once it's used has been debunked.

Both are Stock - built correct from the start.
I know, not the same truck. Years ago, 2006 or so I had a mint Ranger Off-road. Something like 150k on it. I decided to treat it good and changed to full synthetic. It killed the motor. All the passages, seals and bearing clearances got cleaned out and opened up. The mains started leaking to where the HOA wouldn’t allow me to park anymore. The 4.0 started rattling worst than an old Peterbuilt. Started filling oil each time gas was filled. The synthetic didn’t directly cause it but...
