What Have You Done To Your 2nd Gen Tacoma Today?

Did some heavy lifting today. Not as bad as some I’ve seen on here but had 5 years on it.

 

Not too bad for 5 years. Seems like a lot of people forget or never think to replace this.

 

I ordered a FEMCO M12x1.25-T9 (P/N 7090010151 Compact SB - this includes plug, washer, cap) setup to replace my OEM drain plug. I received it and am ready to change my oil and install the FEMCO plug.

@scott_b or anyone else can answer a couple of questions for me?

The plastic container where the plug comes in sates to torque at 12 N. This company is Dutch, plus the plug is metric hence the metric torque value. My questions are:

1. Is 12 N the same as 12 Nm? My digital torque wrench only has Nm on it.

OR

2. Should I just torque the FEMCO plug using Toyota's torque value 30 ft-lb?

Even if i covert 12 N to ft-lb is much lower than 30lb-ft. 12 N is equal to 8.85 ft-lb, like I mentioned before Toyota call for 30 ft-lb for the oil drain plug...

Any advice will be much appreciated.

Looks good. Do you still have any storage in the back?

 

Looking at the fence it is a print seal not a crush washer like Toyota which probably is why it dictates a lower torque value. And I would say it’s a good bet that 12 n listed for torque value is 12 NM

 

Did this last weekend, now I have to re level my lift

 

So it is a brass washer...



Should I go with 12 Nm or go 30ftlb??

Got a labor quote from the dealership of $864 to install a leaf kit, front and rear shocks, and UCAs. Seems higher than I thought. Will try elsewhere.

 

I just did this. What a PIA. The supports were completely gone. The mounting brackets were still there. Driver side came out relatively easy. The passenger side was a different story. Needed to drill out the frozen bolts. Got er done and no more flop!

 

Are you gonna paint it yourself? I am in the same boat....

 

Started my wiring project again.
I'm taking advantage of this nice weather and hope to have a lot done by this weekend.

 

Installed new Diode Dynamics fogs and removed the bug deflector hood thingy that the PO had installed. Think the front end looks better without it. Last weekend I did the AC drain re-route.

 

yeah, ive started sanding it already. kinda hitting it with a rattle can on top to test things out. i need to get it off the truck and make up a spray booth in my backyard. and they get some paint from my paint guy.

but im going to try it black first as kinda a primer to see if i like it. but i think color matched would look best.

Got the truck back after failing inspection. Needs a UCA ball joint so, naturally, I ordered two complete control arms! Figured I might as well get both of them while I have the inclination!

Drained my rear diff and was pleasantly surprised that the fluid was still golden and the magnet didn't have too much metal on it. I did notice this though just above and forward of the diff -



What is that rusty, crusty... bracket(?) and where can I find a replacement? I'd be willing to try to get it out of there and take it to the dealership but it is VERY crumbly...
