I figured that out when I built the rack/basket. I had to modify the front upright after everything was painted.

That’s pretty clever Brandon. My main concern would be fore/aft support of the uprights. Without something bracing them together like a crossbar or an RTT, theyd be relying on the shear strength of the DB hardware which would have the added stress of the torsional load/leverage of the upright height. What did you plan on having on top of the rack?

So, the main plan was to have some side braces like the UpTop overland ones do. That and some kind of additional support underneath on the inside to lock it to the bed when we lock the cover.
I was mainly going to put another uptop rack on it, maybe the hi-lift, maxtrax, rotopax, and awning.

Bike stuff. Crash bar/ skid plate for @uhplifted ’s scooter. Luckily we have the same bike so this was a straightforward build.

Funny enough, the slippahs were finished today when the Vibram sole finally showed up. I buy the larger sized soles and cut/sand them to size.

I know I've talked to you before, but can you PM me a price on a 1st Gen Tacoma tire gate?
And I would like to discuss the possibilities of the tire offset to the passenger side so I have room for a Relentless dual fuel can holder on the drivers side.
I would also like to talk about a full length fold down table on the inside.

CMC today on @riverrat12 ’s awesome build.

Even though they all pretty much look the same I like pictures as much as the next guy.

I wouldn't mind hearing about this also. I'm assuming that once the tailgate is off it's not an easy swap between the two?

It's not that bad, I kept my tail gate around just in case I needed to put it back on for whatever reason. It's just a few bolts that hold it on (that I recall), then the straps on both sides. The tail gate swing out uses the same mounting points. Just a few bolts per side and it's off.

Then again I'm talking about a 1st gen tail gate, I don't know about newer trucks. Although I hear the newer trucks tail gates are easier to steal so maybe they are easier to swap on/off lol.

I've got a 1st Gen that I haven't starting any mods on yet and I really like the looks and utility of this. I just don't know if I want/need it on full time. I plan on taking some trips out west in the next couple of years and I can see how this would come in handy!

@eon_blue is correct. First and second gens have similar mounting styles: remove the tailgate and catch mounting hardware and the gate bolts in place. 6 bolts total. I haven’t taken a good look at third gen tailgate mounting points but I’d assume it’s about the same as well. Easy to swap back and forth. The most annoying part is disconnecting the tailgate camera harness.
For my personal gate I bought a second tailgate camera and harness that I used whenever I swapped between the two.
