Made this a week or so ago and just got it back from the powder coaters. $400 for the materials and powder coating. Seems like a deal (if you don't look to close at the welds...) Two bikes and a canoe on top. Sleeping quarters below. Now to make the pull out drawer sleeping arrangement. I also included a shot of how it mounts as someone asked a while back for a shot of that.

I made mine also, don't have the back bar on it in the pick but I made it removable when not in use.

I actually think that is a great idea. I considered making the bike racks removable, but it was just easier to weld them than fabricate mounts. Might be sorry someday, but right now it is awesome.

Like the concept man, solid work! I plan on doing a similar one over my camper shell.

Looks good. You may want to reconsider the length of the mounts on the bed rail. With such little contact area, it will force all the weight to be distributed to a small area and crunch those bed rails over time, ask me how I know :anonymous:

Interesting... All that I plan to put on top is a canoe (60 lbs.) But, as we know plans change. I will keep an eye on it. Won't be on all the time so maybe I can defer for a while.

I like the idea of a front bar - maybe there full time and protecting the back edge of the cab. Practical but nice looking. Then a separate rear bar to put on the rear as required.

I've seen all sorts of stuff bolted onto the "tie down brackets" down both sides of the bed - but they don't seem to be too securely attached to the box. Toyota has a rather low rating for the factory loops that slide inside them.
