Hello, I have a 2014 tacoma single cab. I purchased an aftermarket camera that fit into the tailgate perfectly and has a wire harness in the tailgate that also connects under the bumper. Does anyone know what else I need to do to get this thing working?

Your going to need a radio or mirror to display the image from the camera. If your truck is like mine, the camera connection and reverse signal are right at the fuse box.
Don't mind the "1D", that's for something else.

I have a screen for the radio from the factory that should display it. What do I need to connect? I found the fuse box as shown.

So you connected the wiring harness to the connector under the bumper?

On my truck the wiring harness out to the tailgate was there but not connected to anything. I had to run new wires all the way into the cab.

Mine is there and connected under the bumper, after it's connected there is just one red wire running under the cab, though I'm assuming there is a disconnect somewhere seeming it won't work.

Yeah your setup is just like mine. It's not going to be plug and play.

I had to run a new wiring harness from the backup camera all the way to the back of the head unit. I believe my camera and wiring came with the connector for the head unit and I just had to splice into the reverse light wiring at the drivers side door kick panel. I also had to poke a hole through a grommet in the floor on the drivers side then use silicone to seal it.

I bought mine from camera-source.com and asked for the full harness.

Let me see if I can find the installation instructions though, that might help you.

Actually I'm looking at @HAVOC post again and if you have a connector there like he does then maybe you are actually prewired?

My base model truck was prewired all the way to the A-pillar. I unplugged two connectors at the fuse box (location shown above), and shoved them behind the fuse box, then made my own small harness to the radio.

My year truck (2012) had the rear view monitor display in the mirror. I installed a 2015 navigation head unit which has the camera display in it.

I think OP is going to have to build or buy an entire harness from the tailgate connector to the back of the radio.

I also just realized that you have the 4 wire harness running under your truck whereas he only has the 1 so the fuse panel connectors won't work if he even has them.

Edit: I just double checked mine. I do have that connector in the fuse box. Didn't trace the wires but I'm pretty sure they're not hooked up to anything in mine.

If he has one red wire running to the back he might have an aftermarket trailer brake? Is his tailgate wired and is there anything plugged into the tailgate (from the truck)?

Not sure about OP's but mine does not have a trailer brake, just one wire running in the harness from the tailgate connector into the cabin and what I would assume is the connector on the fusebox.

Mine goes like this Camera->Tailgate Harness (I did have this stock)->single wire running into cabin ->Fusebox -> ??

If we really wanted to investigate we could check a factory service manual and trace the wiring diagram.

I checked before I bought a backup camera because of notes in other threads about the regular cabs not being prewired. So on mine I just bought a pop n lock with camera and the full wiring harness they sell.

Interesting. Maybe the red wire running under the truck, which seems like it's most likely the reverse light bulb, *IS* the line I tapped into. I believe I tapped into it before it hit the fusebox.

We'll need to wait and see what OP says. Garage was too hot for me to stay out there long tonight.

Please allow me to jump in here. I'm a relative newcomer to Tacoma World, but had great success getting a trailer wire harness and DRL installed in my 2012 with the assistance of other members. Mine has the 4 wire plug in the tailgate (no camera but a spot for one) with wire that runs to the cab; I think to the junction box. I have already secured a used rear view mirror with the monitor screen (part 87810-04030). So my take is the system needs a connecting harness that goes up the A-pillar, over the headliner, and would then need to run through the headliner to the mirror mount. Probably need some additional factory parts here. I absolutely want to keep this stock, no aftermarket. I figure Toyota must have had something in mind or they wouldn't have put the rear end of the network in. Love to hear any feedback from you listeners. Thanks!

You might already have that overhead connector, you'd be missing the video rearview mirror.

Well you identified the camera harness on page 24 of the DRL post. BTW, I am ecstatic to have an active trailer harness, and DRL, thanks again. So maybe the vehicle does have the connecting harness in the headliner. Sure wish I could know without removal, there are the side airbags in it. The OEM rearview mirror I purchased has a 14 pin connector on it which meshes with your wiring diagram here. Maybe it's there taped off like the cam wire in the tailgate. If I were so fortunate, that would just require detaching the stock rearview and re-attaching my replacement. Mmmm...

One Phillip's head screw and 2 spring retainers is all that's holding the overhead console.

The base model does not have the console, the headliner is all one piece with the only attachments being the side air bags.

No, none of the above. I believe Toyota's goal on the 'base' model was price, and it was entirely at their discretion what to include or leave out. I certainly question some of the choices made. Fortunately, many of those features can be added. I would add all of what you mention here if I could, but I would gladly settle for the cam harness if it's there. BTW, I re-looked at the camera harness connection point you identified, there is something going in and out. I'm not giving up yet...maybe I'll be the only guy with the base model that has a rearview mirror. Thanks.
