Any woodworkers?

It is indeed walnut, and curly maple. I call that tiger maple but they "don't carry" tiger maple, so they can't charge me for it. A gem in the pile. Win.

 

Just a hobby for 25yrs+, I don't do much in recent yrs, I just made that shop space last winter in my new smaller home....I made that bench out of solid Maple 25 yrs ago in nighttime woodworking class at the highschool...course cost me $20 bucks ...cherry, walnut Java Mahogany some of the woods I like and more, the folding top desk is cherry and Java. did I mention I like wood planes?

 

MAN, I hate working with white oak, dulls anything you got. great for outdoors though

 

How'd you do that? Drill press, lathe, CNC?

Toyota 8FGU25! Used to be a forklift salesman years ago. That's probably the best propane truck on the market.

Fun fact: Toyota forklift mechanics and car mechanics both wear the same uniforms.

Ooh ya, that thing is a beast. Dual gasoline/ propane. Depending on if your in or outside. We usually are just on propane.

 

Select Doug fir is the wood. Pretty much what we build everything out of. Other species get priceeyyyyy

 

They like propane more than gas. Try to keep it that way if possible!

Your truck has the SAS stability control. You can raise the mast all the way up, go full speed and crank the wheel all the way over and it won't tip. Used to do it for demos. Scared the piss outta the customers, but sells trucks.

That’s what you want! We saw a frame where the guys bought heartwood Doug fir and it turned out horrible. So much movement in the wood with heart. FOHC All day

thats an older brushed version but I have a brushless

 

Nice. Both are great honestly, and Same here I have both and use them interchangeably almost without notice a lot of the time.

 

I got the Makita 18V brushless 3 1/4" planer a while back , thats been used more that I thought I would use it

 

none of the above. But a table lathe would help sand/shape them. Basically strips of veneer, bent to circular shape, then sized, super glued and sanded/polished

 

Shit that sounds like a pain...there’s gotta be a quicker way, no? How well does that super glue joint hold up? Do you have a close up pic of how it’s all wrapped and glued together? I can’t quite picture it

 

How are you cutting? Do you have a beam saw? Or are you going full Amish on it

Ohh, I have a corded one of those. I still haven’t been convinced to buy certain battery powered tools. How long does a battery last on the makita planer?
