Anyone change out the mesh on the hood scoop? Is there a DIY thread on how to do it? I tried searching the mod areas and the 2nd Gen threads, but was unsuccessful.
    Thanks!

That "mesh" isn't mesh at all but a solid plastic cover for a complete insert piece. What are you trying to gain by doing the swap??

Well, I just picked up a chrome grille with chrome mesh on another thread, and I think I'm also being sent enough spare mesh to do the scoop to match. I was wondering if others have taken it apart to modify.

It has been done but I can't find the thread for the life of me. Someone laser cut a piece to fit in the hood scoop area using the same mesh he used for the grille, lower and triangles.

I'm kind've liking the idea of maybe doing a "temp" install as I may switch back from chrome in the future and don't want to have to buy a new scoop. Though, I suppose I could do a permanent swap and then paint black in the future if needed. Ugh. Decisions, decisions and I'm only on coffee #1 this am.

And, while I've got you here... does anyone make a texured silver stereo surround like my oem? I've seen the flat silver and the black ones on ebay. Any suggestions? I'm looking for a double-din setup.

You can unbolt the scoop insert from under the hood. Once it is out you can modify it as you please. I removed the plastic blockoff plate on mine. I used rivets to secure it all back together.

I'm not going to say theres not one out there, but I've only seen flat plastic also. The customer service guys at a place like Crutchfield would know if you don't get a definitive answer on here.

So I could remove it, replace it with chrome and then go back to black if need be? That would be a nice option.
