Can anyone school me on the 2.4?
Anything in particular to look out for on these 1st gens?
Looking to change up my DD since my Lexus got rear ended. I was planning on just doing a cheaper car(will soon be buying a motorcycle also) but I came across a...'04 standard cab,2wd, manual, long bed with roughly 150k miles(VIN 5TENL42N84Z385522).

Heyo. Not an expert by any means, but from what ive read around here the 2.4 can have issues with the exhaust manifold

    the good ones
Leaking valve cover gaskets are one of the most common issues with the 2rz and 3rz engines. The exhaust manifold gets loose too

Cool, thanks for the info @tinytim11B & @tortoise_taco

I was seeing some stuff about emissions so the exhaust stuff makes sense. And I'll definitely keep the valve covers in mind when I go look at it tomorrow.

All in all, not major issues. Hope you like it, and good luck!

Well the undercarriage looked great, like it had all been replaced but the engine was rusty as all hell. Definitely had a leak of some sort coming down the front of the oil pan that had been there for a while also. I had to pass, oh well, never hurts to at least take a look.

Ahhh thats too bad. Thanks for the update. Well, you win some and you lose some! Good thing you did a thorough check. Im sure lots of people just buy these trucks off reputation without a look through and really regret it later on.
