Exactly, I may aswell pay the extra little bit for a new one with full warranty, good paint and ANDROID AUTO. Theres a 2015 in thunder bay for 35k...

Absolutely right sir, manufacturing was shut down for months so dealers have trouble getting new inventory and people have turned to the used market. Also many people don't want to take public transport anymore which further increases the market demand.

but tacomas we're high priced before all this too.

Sucks, i was tossing around the idea of getting another one to daily but i don't need car payments again and the used ones are more than I'm willing to spend just to save some gas.

If i could do it again id just buy an old one since its already as devalued as far as its gonna go and theyre basically the same as the new ones minus a fancy touch screen and a mini van engine.

Unless u plan on babying it then just go new lol

I bought new as used prices were so close to new prices. I even saw a few places with used prices more than what I paid for a new one, for the same model.

This was the boat I was in buying as well, the dealer had 2 used TRD off-road a '13 and a '14 at the time I was looking. But the prices they had them at, they just pushed you to buy new.

And that one in the pics has had the "frame corrosion TSB" done to it...

    LOL :homer:

I'm surprised the exhaust pipes have corroded so much, the Tube is supposed to be stainless (probably a cheap 304 stainless) but I knew the flanges were mild steel so they will corrode regardless.

Even though that one looks real "rusty" if all those areas were sprayed down with penetrating oil or rust converter or ACF-50 or ATF, the rust would be neutralized and convert to an almost black colour.

Alignment cams will probably be seized solid though...

The goop they put in the seams is Beeswax based... so unless is has seeped in to all the problem areas where water can get trapped (which it won't) it won't even be much help in the areas they applied, and may actually help trap water inside... it'll harden in a couple years too...

And unless the frame is still hot when they apply it, it won't creep/seep into all the nooks and crannies to seal them from moisture....

(that's why the put an air dryer into the frame cavities before they apply it)...

Rest of the frame is not treated at all in that TSB... Frame plugs do squat to help....

In late 2017 they started spraying a very thin wax coating around ALL the seems and bracket mounting points in the frame (you can see the "oily" sheen on the new ones... bit even then, it is not good enough to do squat.

It seems Toyota is not doing full vehicle Salt Spray testing (or a reduced hours test) otherwise they would have caught a lot of these corrosion issues on the frame and all the different sensors etc. (front TSS "radar", ADD actuator, transfer case actuator etc.)

Like they did the design and reliability testing in the desert...

I paid less than that for a new 2018 including winter rims and tires and PDI before taxes.

Lol holy crap... that is more than what I paid for mine NEW! Like 5K more...

I've never looked at buying a new regular production vehicle as an "investment" before...

Lol roughly 3% return on a daily driver o_O

I assume this is from deep water crossings? Is just a shitty OEM seal or is water getting in somewhere else?

From what I can tell its corrosion around the o ring seal. The solder connections were all good. Water was going in and out from that seal. Ised some weather strip adhesive to seal it up l. Let's see what happens.

Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone has any factory 3rd gen TRD off-road rims for sale? Figured I would ask here before I scour through the buy/sell section. My tire machine’s mounting arm broke and gouged my rim up when I went to patch a nail in my tire :censored::bananadead::censored::frusty: Toyota wants about 500 for new one so I’m not too interested in going that route..

Save yourself the money and keep running those, it won't cause any problems.

Edit: Clean up that sharp edge on the outer side of the rim before mounting a tire

Oh I know it’s purely cosmetic, it just stings a bit with the truck still being new. Just figures the week I’m ordering sliders and my diamond back something would go wrong lol :spending:

Haha oh trust me that thought has crossed my mind, Doubt I’ll do anything about it before the fall run that’s for sure :drunk:

If the gouges are deep enough fill them in with JB weld and use touch-up paint. And just leave the machined surfaces. You'll be the only one that knows. Additionally a little mud on the wheels wouldn't hurt either.

When I had my old truck I bought a new one which I never ended up using I would sell it cheap if you wanted a new one...
