Hi. I am new to the Tacoma world! I’m a SR5 owner. Sooo I just picked up my Toyota Tacoma SR5 from a muffler shop with my catback installed. It doesn’t sound throaty at all. It sounds like those little honda civic with a toy muffler that’s slightly loud and very annoying. What could have gone wrong for my Tacoma to sound like that instead of the nice throaty sound????

    It's a secret
Well...to get a "beefier" exhaust tone, you kinda need to have upgraded the Exhaust Headers and a Hi-flow Cat...but, it's not the easiest to do on a Taco since it's not exactly a "Tuner" type vehicle...

Few cylinders? It’s a V6. No catback dual on Tacoma?

Duals on a tacoma are known to sound really raspy and apparently you loose low end torque. I would recommend getting a gibson, corsa, trd or borla. They all have pretty good aggressive sound and exit to one side. I have the borla and it sounds fantastic.

    Good luck.

Oh and welcome to the forum!

I put a MagnaFlow catback on and then took it back off shortly after. I think it's hard to make the 3.5 sound good.

He was referring to a V8. No matter how you look at it, V6s aren’t meant to give that deep rumble tone that most seek. However, that being said, I have the TRD cat back on mine and it’s just perfect. Not too loud and no drone. Good luck OP.

You can actually make it sound good, just gotta have the right exhaust. There is a fella driving around where i live, he has mbrp dual exhaust. One of the nastiest exhaust tones i have ever heard, and he is barely even pressing on it.

My buddy has one on his 19 OR and it sounds very good, not ricey at all. Adds that nice aggressive rumble.

I second this, I had the MBRP dual on my 2017. Hated it! Took it off after only 24 hours. Awful horrendous sound it made. Stuck with the TRD exhaust after that and never looked back.

Lol. Would adding a exhaust resonator get rid of the raspiness?
