Rust protection

Maybe fluid film lasts longer on a vehicle where winters aren't as messy as they are here. Imo, unless your willing to religiously apply fluid film every year, its best to look for another product that goes on, and stays on for awhile. Not claiming fluid film is bad, it just doesn't last here, i used it for years on my older tundra, but decided try something else starting with a new vehicle, and compare long term results. I gotta believe from what i've already seen cosmoline will give me far more time between having to be applied again.

 

How did your Tundra hold up after several years of FF?

 

I'm in Massachusetts. It doesn't get much worse as far as salt and brine goes in the US and my Fluid Film holds just fine.

 

everything needs to be reapplied, touched up, every year, or you will not have coverage and protection. at some point, summer heat, water, salt, brine, de-pre-icing solutions will remove all rust inhibiting formulas fully or partially. no different than washing your car, changing the oil... just another maintenance to protect your investment. like i said, once a year in the fall, takes a few hours, peace of mind. I have a used 2019 DCSB that spent 2 winders in New Jersey. Thoughts on a proper cleaning process before I coat the frame this fall? I have a pressure washer but am doubtful that without actually crawling under it and trying to spray it off that I can do a pristine cleaning before I coat it. Any advice is much appreciated.

 

I just called them. No joy. Maybe we can team-up? I told them I would call back later in October.

Had the tundra 19 years starting with fluid film on the 2nd summer i had it. When i sold it the first thing the garage that bought it looked over the frame well. Yeah it was rusty in places especially the rear leafs, but all in all the frame was pretty darn good looking better than some 3 year old taco's pics on here that had nothing done to protect them. I'm getting up in years and don't need to be doing this crap every fall season. On another note i do clean off my sperry/rand new holland garden tractors mower deck that was made in 1971 and sprayed it down with fluid foam every season before winter....its still in pretty decent shape.

 

When i saw bmw's and mercede's have cosmoline applied to them before their shipped over here, plus used by the military , i figured if good enough for them... well its good for a mere taco.

 

I'm just a couple miles from the ma. and ny. borders. When i was working (now retired) i used to drive 55 miles a day back and forth to work on some of the worse salted roads. Ff didn't hold up well enough for my liking. By the end of summer everything was showing some surface rust causing me more work to clean it up before applying another years worth of ff on the chassis. Maybe some guys aren't as fussy but i like to keep my vehicles for at least 20 years.

 

I'm as fussy as they get. Ill post pics after 5 or 6 years to show how it looks.

bought the kit from Amazon 3 years ago. Comes with a gun, wands, couple containers for the gun, spray can and a gallon of product for 150 bucks..
Did our 3 vehicles last weekend and am doing my Sister's 4Runner and BIL's Taco tomorrow.
Bought two gallons of product over the Summer, so I have plenty on hand.

 

This, I didn't use the CRC first but if I were doing it over again I would.

To the point that another poster made, Fluid Film will attract dirt and make working on the truck messier than usual. And it does need to be reapplied every year. But it does a great job at preventing rust, 10/10 would recommend. Jam the hose into every hole under the truck, in the doors, control arms, etc and go to town. It'll keep you rust-free for many years.
