can’t do IG. Too many hobags trying to get in between me and my wife. Wasn’t worth the hassle on the home front lol. Dang hussys from my past life kept trying to be the one lol

 

You can't even look at anything decent on IG without running into hoes trying to oversexualize the hobby you are into, I'm sick of it which is why I just don't do social media at all.

 

Lol. This is my only social media. Love that we get some anonymity and a reasonably strict code of conduct.

Morning gents. I am curious on what everyone's thoughts are on 93 w/ 10% ethanol vs 91 ethanol free gas. Is there any performance benefit of running ethanol free if its lower octane? Not worried about the cost, more curious if there will be any added performance. I dont drive the truck very often so there is some appeal to not worrying about the fuel going bad too. I am also running water methanol so i guess the octane difference probably would be negligible

 

I ran 92 ethanol-free for a few months just for kicks and didn’t notice anything different. Granted, I did not tune for it. If you tune for the ethanol-free stuff you might notice something.

I run 92 ethanol-free in the Shadow and Goldwing just for the reason you mentioned. I sometimes let them sit for extended periods when I don’t feel like getting scorched, soaked or frozen.

 

I may give it a go just to see what happens. I dont plan on doing any tuning though, still running UCon so ill just let it do whatever black magic it does behind the scenes.

 

Ethanol contains less potential energy than gas, so more of it is required to do the same amount of work, meaning lower MPG. (E85 is almost 30% less powerful than pure gasoline.) It's also hygroscopic. (This makes the blended fuel more prone to phase separation and provides an environment conducive to the growth of acetobacter, which can cause corrosion.)

In short, as long as you don't go below the recommended octane level for your application and you're not trying to cure heat problems, ethanol-free gas is better than ethanol-added blends. Given the options listed, I'd choose the 91 octane ethanol-free option.

Well stated.

I run ethanol free gas in my small engines and they perform muuuuuch better. I wished I was buying it for the same price as Costco 93 octane @ $2.049 gal.

 

Forgot to mention, I track every tank of gas and every mile in all my vehicles. (Yes, I'm OCD.) All other things being equal, every vehicle's mileage and (butt-dyno) performance drops when using blended gas.

 

So when we get our cars tuned once a year, the tuners (from California) say the 94 octane (Canadian special from PetroCanada (Suncor) and Husky Oil) with approx. 10% ethanol is the bee's ass BUT you have to be fine-tuned for it to see the results. If not, go 91.

I always envy your gas prices down there. $4.53 per gallon for 94 a couple of days ago here.

 

A bit on the high end but for 4runners and 3rd gens. For the folks wanting some venting. Maybe a 2nd Gen version will come.
