    Looking for some clarification:

When you flash a new or different tune, it erases learned values. The reason for the clear at and clear LV buttons, is due to the fact it doesn't always clear all of those values in their entirety, correct?

    Edit:
So let's say I go and I run a 93 performance octane tune, then I decide to go to my homemade tune and don't clear either the LV or AT fields .. Will I now have some sort of a hybrid tune? Is it possible for those uncleared values conflict with new values?

Nope. When you pull the battery terminals or flash a tune, the DTCs are reset. The engine and AT LVs stick, unless you do the Resets.

The reason I ask this is because I've noticed that while doing little adjustments: let's say on a shift point, that by not clearing the LV or at fields it seems like a much smoother transition. But then I started wondering how messy would that be if you had huge changes. Even something as simple as different octane.

Yes. Resetting and idling gives some wonky running. If you want to test back to back small changes, you can skip it. Some folks around here have never done the Resets.

My problem is that doing them made such a big difference after the first time that I tried them, I can't resist the clean slate when flashing. I need help.

This was from @OVTune , but I don't have the actual post to quote, just saved the text:

    "Regarding reset AT / LV.

    So this isn't confusing

Resetting LV / AT after a flash = not required

Resetting LV / AT after a flash = is not harmful, and may be done at your discretion

Resetting LV / AT after a flash = Should be done IF you have drivability issues (very odd shifting behavior, very odd engine behavior, or you hear any knock/detonation)

Resetting LV / AT after a flash = May make the truck run noticeably rougher for the first few miles (especially the transmission)

Resetting LV / AT should NOT be done just because you feel like doing it.

Resetting the LV / AT should NOT be done if you haven't recently flashed.

If you Reset LV / AT right after a flash = the first 25mi to 50mi, the trucks shifting characteristics can be ignored

If you Reset LV / AT or even flashed the truck and are making judgements without putting AT LEAST 25 miles on the truck, you are not getting an accurate representation of how the truck will perform."

I’m trying Moosedity’s tune right now. It’s helped some with the cruise control. I went to play golf today and had to drive on the interstate there and back. Both times at 72-73 mph, the rpms only went up a few hundred rpms (only dropped to 5th) on hills/overpasses. I was pleasantly surprised. If you are on 04B04,you need to try it.
I also got 17 mpg! I haven’t seen that since stock!

I agree that his tune is pretty spot on! I have tweaked the shift points / torque converter stuff to my liking. I've also turned up the sensitivity on the throttle to my liking as well. Good stuff.

I ran his tune tow tune to the beach which was about 180 miles each way. I was averaging about 17.4 mpg each time.

It’s so crazy to me that we get better gas mileage with performance tunes!
I think this truck just loves to run around 2000-3000 rpms.

You get better fuel economy with some rpms. My MT will regularly see 20+ mpg at 70 mph and 2450 rpm. The AT tries to run at 1800 and bogs down and kills fuel economy.

I think the engine runs fine enough at 1800. The real problem to me is the throttle and shift curves would be so flat for so much pedal travel, and then shoot up so fast. If you were running 1800 rpm and say 6-7% throttle, and you needed just a hair more, it was very difficult not to end up at 3700+ and say 30% throttle. Thats unnecessary and would just kill fuel efficiency.

Toyota did a fine job getting fuel efficiency when your only load is drag. And this engine rips at the top end too, for what it is. They just couldnt figure out how to smoothly get from one end to the other.

I’m new to a lot of this stuff so forgive me for asking. How would I go about using his tune? I just updated my truck to the 04B04 and it’s pleasant so far.
