I’ve always wanted to drive the Mojave trail but actually take my time and visit the sights.

Every review I read (that wasn’t someone just hammering and bragging about how Bj Baldwin could learn a thing or two from them) the person said they wished they took the time to sight see more, not rush through the historical stuff.

anyways, I want to make the run, trying to convince the missus, and the two kids and dog to come... which means I’ll be towing a utility trailer I’ll be very soon converting to run oem wheels and 35 inch tires etc.

anyways I want to, if the trail is open due to the fires, make the run this fall before the rains...

anyone down for a family trip? Maybe 2-3 nights on the trail?

    I’m up in concord btw

Yep, mellow. One kid is 5 and the other is 1.5

even if I took the 5 yr old one and left the wife with the youngest...

It would still be a relaxed trip.

Considering doing Mojave 2.0 with my cousin in early nov or late oct thinking about 2-3 days also.

we did 90 miles on day 1 of 1.0 so we are definitely trying to slow it down significantly second time around.

Time frame of when you’re thinking of going?

    Same. Late October early nov.

I want to skip the heat waves but not be too worried about flash floods.

Although my last Barstow trip 2 years ago was in October and the forecast showed clear and the lightening storm came in and hundreds of people got stuck for days lol.

    I had my kids a 20ft trailer a suburban and a stock ish zr2...
our brand new tent (family sized) leaked and I woke at midnight in a puddle of water.
I had been caught in the desert in flash floods before and got this feeeling to get out. We packed up in a hurry and started driving out as the roads were flooding.
As the sun rose we started hearing reports of people stuck requesting food and water etc...

glad we packed up. My daughter was 3... had food and water for 2 days. And no dry shelter

I’m a tentative in. I have done the trail once before stopping at the lava tubes along with some of the spots along the way. We camped at the Mojave preserve and than continued to Laughlin the next day. If I join I will also have my off-road trailer in tow

totally its not a very technical trail just very long. Start on the Nevada side and end up in CA. Some great spots along the way to camp.

I’d love to sit down with some folks and have a planning session and map out places to check out.

I hate operating with out a plan lol!

The Mojave is tons o fun. But it’s not really a “technical” trail. If you’ve got a well sorted suspension you can play with the throttle a bit. I like starting on the California side and end in the state with cheaper gas...

I can send you a lead nav file that I mapped out manually. Takes the main trails, has a spot that goes to the old fort. I can look it up and make sure I still have it but its spot on.

dang that’s a wild experience to go through with your kids.
Good on ya for listening to your intuition.
I would be scared shit less flying on a boys trip, and oh so much more if I had my family with me.

My girls would probably also go on this trip.

I’m thinking maybe I’ll set up a zoom link. People who are intersted can do some research about places on the road they want to see for sure.

we can make a list, then try to break down camping spots and decide on a 2
Night or 3 night trip (I’m hoping for 3 nights).

and then maybe by then we can work out a target date.

My wife and I are going to Joshua Tree this week. Then up to Izabella Lake and then fallow the Kern river panning our way down. We definitely want to take our time and enjoy the history and sights.

From the Mailbox to Kelso-Sima Rd (going west to east) is solid whoops. This would not be fun with a trailer. We found a 'bypass' to the north. Do your homework and plan to bypass this section. Doing homework is the most fun so I won't spoil it by telling you where to go. lol. And do try to ford the river at the west end. Doing so will open up one of the funner sections of the road. The slot canyons by the tracks.

I would be interested in doing this. It would be my wife, 5yr old and 2.5yr old, and I towing our turtleback trailer. Been wanting to do Mojave road for a while. Im in Tracy.
