    Hey guys.

I thought my throw out bearing was bad, but I got in to check and the URD stage 2 pressure plate had a metal ring in it that's spinning and causing the squealing. What is that ring? Why is it there? Is this normal?

Btw it's up on a paid by the hour lift. URD is closed and no one around us has a replacement pressure plate.

Looks like it's there to prevent wear on the diaphragm spring... possibly improve actuation? Things like this are why I tend to stay with OEM designs and parts... though possibly this is?

Agreed, but it squeals like a bad TOB. It's really loud when the clutch is pressed to the floor

There's another thread around here about it. I think it was the wave spring? I don't quite remember but look it up, I would but its Noon in Vegas. The shroomies aren't being kind lol.

same issue, just hopefully resolved it. took a whole day again to deal.

contact URD, explain issue. they will send you a new ring. install and hope for the best. i also replaced my TOB (again) cus I'm not messing around. so, expensive day right after the whole initial swap. ugh.

I'm a few short weeks in with the new bits and no issue yet. he said if it comes back (the noise) it will not be degrading or catastrophic. just noisy. ugh again. so far I'm silent.

I can tell you this you can remove it if you want. I started with it when I had the URD hydraulic set up and I got some weird popping if the truck was parked on a hill resting on the clutch versus the parking brake when initially released. I removed the ring when I removed the URD hydraulic set up. I've since replaced the clutch again with another URD set up and I am not using the ring with no ill effects. I think the ring was put in there to help with the squealing between the pressure plate fingers and the release bearing I prefer it without the ring.

Well I'm on a pay by the hour lift so we're putting her back together now. This is a big WTF URD?! I even called and explained the noise to them and they told me it was the TOB.
Good to know it's not catastrophic. I'll likely drive it like it is till spring
However, I will context URD again and explain. I'm not a happy customer at this point, unfortunately.

    Guys, I appreciate it

Yessir this is the same thing. Thinking back I probably should have revived that thread, but I was 4 hours deep in my truck and wasn't thinking straight lol.

Plan is to call URD Monday. I'm glad to hear this isn't a potential hazard daily driving... But it's gonna drive me mad!
If we have to get back in there again, we're aiming for a 2 hour tranny removal time!

Again, really appreciate all the help guys! I'm slowly learning my way around a garage

Thanks for your feedback man. I'm glad we share the same level of frustration with tearing the entire truck apart!! Hahaha. Just is what it is :annoyed:

well, the clutch itself is totally awesome so there's that.

i doubt this has any significance, but i may as well mention it...

after the initial swap before the noise (and it was all new parts, resurfaced fw, new tob), i was gentle with the clutch to break her in and gain some material on the fw. but i didn't avoid clutching in, like sitting at a light about to turn green, etc. i figured a little extra clutch in time would assist break in. not a lot, but i didn't avoid spending 30 seconds here & there with the pedal down. the clutch and fw broke in perfectly.

then the noise and the second opening, we just replaced the ring & tob, and he made some light adjustments. i had also replaced the entire hydraulic & pedal assembly at that time so it was a good time to tighten everything up. but after that i have been avoiding clutch in time on the new ring as much as possible. throw it in neutral every chance and stay off the pedal. just to be very low stress on breaking in the ring &.tob if you can say that.

I'm not too long into the new ring & tob but it is still silent, so I'm gradually starting to be normal on how much and how long i clutch in. it's probably nothing but you never know. maybe be super gentle on break in with the new ring & tob.

Good luck to both of you! If I ever have to replace my clutch I'll have to rethink before going URD.

the clutch is really good. I'm glad i did it. but it does appear there is a small design flaw or something, fortunately not compromising the integrity.

There was no scoring or anything on those fingers. I assume it's just dust build up

Yeah I broke it in nice and gently for about 1k miles. But like you, now I'm concentrated on changing my driving style and use as little clutch pedal as possible for now.
I used the URD heavy flywheel, so I'm wondering if those metal shavings in the housing we're from the break in period? No idea.

Idk I mean the clutch flywheel and pressure plate from URD are all pretty sweet.... And the engagement is killer. This is just disappointing and hope they resolve it. I'm not sure there's a better clutch on the market.
