Looking for some help. Phone connected by salesman and all ok for phone usage during delivery. Got home and plugged in usb cable to my Galaxy s9+ following all available directions. Radio display changed to android auto. Pushed that button and it goes black for a sec then says to disconnect/reconnect usb. No help. Searching internet info found wireless needs to be off on my phone to have usb tethering to work. ( Have great wi fi at home) Today I turned off my phone wireless, hooked up and all was great ! Drove to dealer to buy bed mat. Left phone in truck for 15 minutes. Came out and drove away. No more AA. Its back to the unhook/rehook message. I think my phone needs a setting some where. Any thoughts out there. Side note: retired life long (45 years) Ford Senior Master Technician specializing in gas/diesel drivabilty diagnostics willing to help with any Ford advice. Thanks in advance.

You might try a different cable. I have a cable that drops and comes on and drops...

And welcome to The Forum!

That’s weird you have to turn off wireless on the phone. I didn’t have to do anything on my Samsuck S10. If i recall correctly it just grabbed android auto software itself and bang. Hell i even have all forms of wireless on and i even have android auto set to work wirelessly since i tried to get it to do so.

My phone is not doing tethering to do this, so i’m wondering if thats got you down a weird path.

when you say “pushed that button” what do you mean?

Mine gets finicky because i need to clean the usb port on my phone but other than that, i plug in, and press the physical “map” button on the head unit to shortcut to android auto and bob’s my andoid

Try buying another cable, Target sells the red Anker USB Type C cable, I had a similar issue with my 2020, tried that cable and everything worked afterwards.

I ordered some cables which will be here Sunday. It's the projection button on the radio, it does change to android auto. After pushing the Android auto button it gives the message to unplug and re plug my USB cable.

@Exfordman can't help you with your AA issue but how do I get rid of 2016 F250 death wobble? Already changed tires.

Unfortunately Android Auto runs horribly on the Entune 3.0 head unit. I solved all my issues by buying an iPhone SE. Sorry, I know this is not the answer you were looking for but I threw in the towel. Couldn’t get any help from the dealer or Toyota Corp.

My son's Google pixel phone worked perfect with my cable. We then tried my Samsung s9+ and got the usual message "Android Auto has disconnected. Please unplug and then reconnect". When/if I get this fixed I will let the forum know.

I have the same phone, and it has been a little strange, but overall it works. Whenever I plug in my S9+, I get the "Android Auto has disconnected. Please unplug and then reconnect" but it is actually connected and working. Then maybe once a month I have an issue where it will connect, but requires a lot of effort to get music to play through Spotify.

I assumed it was more of an issue with Spotify because usually when it wouldn't connect it, it would require restarting the Spotify app multiple times. I've never had to turn off wireless or wifi to get it to work though.

Last thing, I have a google home wifi speaker in my garage that my phone has the same trouble with, where it won't connect, and music won't play.

I noticed when I get the disconnect message my phone says it's still hooked up. The tacoma says to hook up and radio shows projection, not android auto.

I've found that it's a necessity to have at least a USB 3.0 cable for AA to workout without issues. Of course then you can have issues with brands. I echo the Anker cables and have also had luck with the Amazon Basics cables.

Fixed ! (I hope) I talked to Samsung and nothing worked. The tech did say his S9 showed two android auto items. I went to google store and I see my it says I have android auto installed and can uninstall but that leads to a "update" option after I uninstall. I down loaded soke thing else called android auto for phone and it installed. That program had settings in it and I checked a box to autolaunch toyota tacoma. I went out and tried it and it worked. Thanks to all replies. Now I can drive my new Tacoma with a smile and add to its low 12 miles.

This is the cable I use, and like I said above, about once a month out of about 100 times I get in and start up my truck I have an issue where I have to unplug and replug.

Congrats on getting it fixed! Some of these convenience features just make things more complicated.

Stock wheels and suspension. Random "utilitarian" mods featured on this great forum.
Galaxy S9 here and I was having the exact same problems. Phone would connect, launched Maps and immediately it would disconnect. Tried multiple cables (oem samsung included) with same results.

What finally worked is cleaning out the phone cable port with either MAF or electrical cleaner. Afterwards, I noticed cables make more secure connection and phone no longer disconnects. Drove me nuts to the point I almost bought an expensive cable to try and fix it.

Glad simple update fixed it for you. I tried that multiple times and even uninstalling apps.
