The truck is used and sold with warranty for mechanical issues . Not cosmetic stuff . It’s not illegal for a dealer to sell a vehicle because the tint does not meet state requirements. Now if they installed the tint that would be a different story .

It leaves a residue on the glass too. That is my understanding. Longer process than 5 minutes.

I have a friend with a blacked out land rover and he has 15% window tint on his back window, 5% on his two rear passenger windows, drivers side and passenger side front windows are tinted 15% and his windshield is tinted 25%. I'm sure its illegal but hes passed every inspection so far. (he has a "buddy" who does car inspections)

    I'm from North Carolina :)

Im sure if they are good buddies he does get it passed. If you don't know someone really well it is hard to find someone to pass it though. It is a hefty fine if the inspector gets caught. Mine was illegal as well, as my whole windshield was tinted and front doors on my Tacoma was 25%. But I just stripped it to get it thru inspection and then retinted it. I don't have the truck anymore, but the one I have now is legal. My eyesight is not what it used to be.

I had it looked at by 2 different inspection folks, both of whom I know. Both said it won't pass.

I also went out and looked at the windows, I can tell it has an installed film on it.

Since I still want it retinted, I'll probably pay someone to untint and tint it. If I tint it, it will look like the 3 Stooges did it.

If it’s still fairly new it won’t leave hardly any residue. This just happened to me a few months back in inspection. I ripped it off right there. I did it myself and they said it was 35 percent but when I installed it it seemed extra dark. Ended up being like 20 percent. The other option is you can take your windows out and go to another place. They still have to pass even if the windows are gone. I almost did that but I decided to rip it off and put proper tint on.

Takes five minutes to remove yourself. Just take a razor blade and get a corner started, rip off the film and then wet the inside of the window with water on a rag or a squirt bottle. The flue instantly softens and use the razor blade to quickly scrape it off. It took me longer to type this than it would have taken to remove one of the tint.

I 100% always have tint removed on all front windows on my inspections.

But a lot of techs are just in money mode and just call brakes and call it a day.

If I bought a new truck with tinted windows from an in State dealership and the window tint meant failing State inspection, I would expect the dealership to fix the tint so it would pass at no extra charge, since you know, they already charged me for the tint...

If you bought it new then the tint was added by the dealer. Make them change it out to a lighter tint that passes.

then it residenced in a diff state

Laws vary widely ststae to state...............some DO NOT require Inspections

some have Do NOT address other issues found in other states

many Do NOT address modifications made outside the dealership !!!!

some allow for Insurance companies to DISavow Coverage after owner modifications

as they ae NOT safety tested

Guys, he said he bought his truck NEW, not used. I assume it was dealer traded. Since it came from a lot in GA.

Inspection?, We don’t need no stinking Inspection! Here in Oregon there’s no vehicle inspection but we do have laws about tinted windows. It’s strictly a matter of a cop being bored if you would ever get checked!

Bought my truck in Tennessee with the front windows and top windshield tint. Guy who sold it to me asked if I wanted it removed, he knew it was illegal in my state. I kept it and took the truck to the NJ MVS station for its " New car inspection sticker" good until 2022. The manager of the inspection station never even mentioned it as she got into the driver's seat to put the sticker in the corner of the windshield. I guess I will see again in 2022

NC tint rules are 35% for Passenger and driver's side, but if you get the windows tinted, they are usually at 33% once done. Mine came in at 33% with the UV ceramic tint, and I too live in NC, but my county doesn't inspect for tint %.
