I had two. I had a blue merle and a black tri-color (technically, a cryptic merle since it had a small patch on his forehead). This sold me on herding dogs and I doubt I'll stray from herding dogs as a result. Super smart dogs.

Odd question, does anybody have a reason why my dog will randomly drop a small mouthful of food in different places around the house?
Tonight she decided to leave some on the mat in front of the oven as well as some by the back door.

Are you sure it's not a rabbit?

Just kidding. I must admit, I have never seen a dog do that.

It’s the most bizarre thing, usually it’s just 3-4 pieces and she’ll drop them, look at me, and then look at the food. If I tell her to clean it up she’ll usually eat it, sometimes it’ll stay for hours until I clean it up.

We have a shih tzu at the house and she hides / stashes treats. I have no idea why but can only guess it's to save them for later. She has different treats so sometimes she'll do that until she gets the treat she wants.

Our lab mix is not food driven at all. Maintains an extremely healthy 53-57 lb weight despite having as much food as she wants. Her breakfast is often finished right before getting her dinner and her dinner is often half eaten in the morning. We have thrown food away before because she did not eat it soon enough. We had to switch from all dry to a mixture of 1/4 wet added to her dry food because she needed to add 3-5 pounds to her weight. Most meals she will bring a couple nibbles out to the living room floor, eat them then go back to her bowl to finish.

My guess: You're dog is like "look at this shit! You expect me to eat it?" Then leaves it all around the house since you didn't get the message the first time. :)

    Actually, I have no idea. . .
