Nah I don't think so. Its just a spare. Or is my thinking wrong? Lol do most ppl match what they have?

It’s best to match all 4 but there are exceptions depending on miles etc

Typically you want to do at least 2 - both fronts or both rears

Well my thought would be that whatever spare i use, is just the spare. So if I get a flat, I put it on until I get a new tire. Or does that seem like a waste? Anyway, I have BFG KO2 a/t

It's smart to match what you have. Otherwise you have to drive on 3 33" tires and one stock tire when you get a flat. My spare is a 285/75/16 Ironman All Country MT. Not using those tires again, so I'm gonna have to get rid of it.

I put in the 3/4” spacer to eliminate the Taco Lean, and just got my 4th alignment. Traded the OEM rims for 17” Sport rims and a bora bora 1” spacer. I got my Firestone 285/70/17 MT2’s. Pelfreybilt gas tank skid and hi-lift jack should be here Friday. Looking at bumpers, but I think they will wait for next year. So far I’m happy with my build. I’ve done it all myself, leading to a lot of cussing and frustration, but it’s all mine.
Outside diameter of the true is the most important factor. Brand or make isn’t that important if it’s just a spare.

Yea thats my thought..if its just a spare then I won't care of brand as long as it matches 285/70/17

I don't know how much difference there is in a 70 vs a 75.... other than that it would work for you.

Age of tires really depends upon the tire. What kind of shape are they in? Excessive dry rot? I had a set of cheap-o Fuzion tires that lasted me well over 10 years. Had a set of Bridgestones that lasted 3 years and started to dry rot quickly.

If it were me, I'd buy all 5 matching and a full size stock spare. That way you can rotate all 5 tires in and out. This will extend the life of all 5 tires, and you will have a full size spare, that looks like the factory wheels. THis does add cost initially.

As far as rust goes, sucks, but it is what it is. I'd try to get down there with a wire brush and get the big stuff off and try to treat the areas you can reach with some sort of protection. Rattle can, and then a fluid film type of product. Next spring, get the underneath pressure washed really good and try to hit it again with some wire brushes and rattle cans. If you can get ahead of it and treat it seasonally, you should be able to stay ahead of it pretty well. Not sure the current status, though.

I picked my size through this site and then got a price. They work with local installers. I then took that onlive quote and called the 7 shops within 10 minutes of my work. I asked them if they would match the price to earn my business. 2 shops said they would. I went to the first place and there were 10 people in line so I went to the second place. R & L tire ordered them and had them installed the next day. 265/65/18 Nitto Ridge Grappler. Just rotated them for the 3rd time at 20k miles. Absolute great tire!

Oh and nothing against you, but Marion county and there poor attempt at politics can KMA. I won't spend a penny in that county going forward.

Nice truck. I wish I had held out for a 1st gen when I settled on a Tacoma.

I drove back to AR to visit my bride and college-aged son and the new Seibon hood gave me the pucker factor on the highways. The corners were bouncing up and down, especially when behind trucks. I ordered a set of pins and installed them in about 90 minutes. Tested it on the highway and my worry has been eliminated.

Went to local pick-n-pull salvage yard today here in Evansville. My brother-in-law said he spotted a Tacoma there yesterday. I had my doubts as I have never seen a Taco (any gen) in a local pick yard.

It was a 98 6 lug with 2.7 auto. Heavily picked already of course. I did get outside mirrors and door handles and several other items. I am guessing this is one of the reasons it made it to the yard:

    upload_2020-11-21_13-23-0.jpg

I hope they didn't salvage it just for this reason as this could have been fixed pretty easily. It's been picked so hard I can't really tell if there were other big problems. Engine is still there.

was there evidence of collision damage?

i found an oddity in Lincoln NE this past week
    97 5 lug 2.7 RC with 243k
surface rust all over the frame, inside caked with a boatload of dirt, probably an inch!
i hammered the crap out of the frame and it was solid AF, so it probably never made it into the city (maybe a rural farm truck) during the winters because i would not know how it would survive so long with that dirt caked inside

somebody thought this section of frame was salvageable!

but it had this crap rust perforation on it but frame was aok as i could tell

    @what road
I was eavesdropping on the LT thread a few weeks ago and I thought you said something about needing a tailgate. Forgot to follow up.

I have one that was only on my truck for roughly 1500 miles or so and then I converted to flatbed. Only scuffed where my camper shell was rubbing. Also, I had put two bolts through the handle holes to strengthen it. It would have all internal hardware plus end latches. Dark green in color and has the hard plastic protector on the inside surface.

I looked on Amazon and a tailgate plus the plastic protector this has would cost $80(tailgate) + $40-50(protector). I'd take $70 and be willing to meet you in Terre Haute some weekend. Not sure how far that is for you, but 90 miles for me. If it was closer, I'd take less for the gate.
