Do you know what grit you're using? I keep seeing 240/1000 and was thinking 240 was coarse enough for an axe and 1000 for a standard blade but I also see 400/2000 or even 2000/5000 but I don't think I have anything nice enough to warrant that.

How are you supposed to have time to hunt?

well I got off my butt and walked 2.21 miles this morning. 62 degrees and still soaking wet when done. Worst part is how dam stiff

Not sure what grits those are. Thats and old mastercraft cheapo stone. By my finger feels id say its 1000 and something higher than that 2000 or 3000 maybe.

240 is really coarse. That would peel axe metal off in a hurry. If you have a bunch of nicks and dents in your edge it would be good but if you touch up often and split on a block so you dont get rock chips i would get something higher than 240 as your base

 

Watching cars go around and around and around in a circle/oval will do that to you.

My axe isn't bad at all, I'd just prefer sharper so the 240 would probably be a waste to start with. I'll go higher grit combos, thanks
