As mentioned a couple of times, you have to fully mate the converter in the trans. It will clunk *twice* as you spin it.

Yep forgot to mention what Bishop just said. I had two dowel pins in my trans from my old engine, forgot to remove the dowels from the new engine as well which obviously won't work. Double check that you only have two dowel pins in.

Another thing to mention is that I basically had to leave the engine on the hoist, jack the trans up a bit to match the angle and swing the engine towards the trans. I'm not sure if you're doing this alone but I needed two other people to hold the engine against the trans while I was starting the bellhousing bolts.

Count them first, you NEED 2, you cannot skip them.

    Use a vice grip.

I can’t tell it’s going to be a problem but I still can’t even get it close to the point that the dowels matter, ripping the engine out again to try and see if something isn’t right with the torque converter. When I’m putting on the torque converter does the trans need to be in park, drive, neutral? Does that even matter ?

Use diagonal wire cutters to remove dowels. Grip the dowel with the cutting surface and then move the handles so as to "pry" or "lift" the dowel out of the hole. It will come right out.

Dowel is out now just making sure the torque converter is seated properly, I can feel two small clunks with one loud click, but does anyone know how far back it’s supposed to go I feel like it’s on but it’s just barely fully in the bellhousing, not sure If it should be deeper in or what

It should move towards the trans *visibly* on each clunk. Not just a click. A clunk as you rotate it and it drops further towards the trans. If you're not sure have someone come over and help. If it's not right and you draw the trans to the engine with the bolts, you'll destroy the pump as someone above mentioned. Make sure it is right.

Also, measure the diameter of the center nub on the back of that converter and be sure it will fit in the end of the crank. If you have an engine that had a manual trans behind it, there's going to be a pilot bushing in the end of the crank that will need to be removed.
