OBD Fusion Dashboard Swappin' Thread

I know there's a tips and tricks thread for OBD Fusion(OBD Fusion tips and tricks), but I thought I'd start a thread specifically for trading Dashboards. Sometimes (like coding), the easiest way to do something is to start with a base, or pirate someone else's code.

To prep this thread, I think it would be good to put down some expectations. So here are my thoughts on what should be included with any post. Also I'm happy to edit my first post to include any dashboard anyone wants to contribute. Just send me the content and I'll edit the first post.

First, here are the things I think should be included:

• Screen capture in correct orientation
• Ecosphere (Apple or Android) and hardware version
• Version of App (Settings | About | Information | Version)
• List of PIDs used in the dashboard
• Export with ONLY the dashboard included (file or link to file)
• TW username if willing to answer questions
• Any comments and info you want to include

Okay... some instructions:

First, I can only speak to the iPhone import/export feature at this point. I can assume that Android is similar, but cannot confirm that. If someone out there wants to PM me confirmation or separate instructions, I can include them here.

Here's the confirmed process for exporting dashboards (sharing).

1. Setup a free Dropbox account, or use one you already have
2. Configure your Dropbox credentials in OBD Fusion. Do this in Settings | Preferences | Dropbox/iCloud.
3. This will create a folder series in your root of Dropbox called Apps/OBD Fusion/... there are three folders there; CSVLogs, Import, Export. They should be pretty explanatory.
4. If you want to export a dashboard, go to Settings | Menu (in the top right) and choose 'Export Settings'. Then choose Dropbox and go back one menu by choosing 'Settings' at the top. This is not totally intuitive, but it will open another dialog box with a series of switches. Turn off all switches except Dashboards. Select 'Back'. This is the semi-intuitive part. You'll get a message box indicating the export was successful. And, it'll show you the path to your export.

If you want to use a shared Dashboard, you'll need to acquire the file from someone and manually put it in your Dropbox folders. If you want to share a Dashboard, you'll need to export it and make it available to others.

The process for importing is very similar. Go through the same steps except select 'Import Settings' instead. After selecting 'Back', you'll be presented with a list of files currently in either your export or import folders (go figure... one would think it would show you only the import folder). Select the file you want. You'll be presented with a list of import options that matches the export options. Deselect all but 'Dashboards'. Once you select 'Back' it'll ask you if you want to 'Clear Existing Dashboards' or Overwrite Existing Dashboards'. Choosing 'Clear Existing Dashboards' gives you the notice that this will remove all existing dashboards and only newly imported Dashboards will be available. Choosing 'Overwrite Existing Dashboards' doesn't give a warning, so I'm unclear on what it does at the moment with existing Dashboards. I'll risk losing my work in a day or two and test it. Choose 'Back', and it should import the Dashboards in the file you chose.

I hope this post will help boost the adoption and use of OBD Fusion. I found it to be 'somewhat' daunting because of all the PIDS and the fact that they aren't always intuitive by naming convention. Also, I don't fully understand the three different export options. File mode doesn't seem to be very intuitive at all, particularly for the iPhone variant. As I learn more or others educate me, I'll update the post here. Note: I fully expect to update this post as I learn more or discover any errors.

2. Notes: I built this Dashboard for use as a Towing Monitor. The intent was to have ready access to relevant temperatures, gear status, torque converter status, and some fuel consumption stats. Also, there's some basic HP/Torque info. What I like about it is the relative symmetry, the red/green dot that indicates the torque converter status, and I admit that I added ranges so I could more easily see temperatures and their status compared to 'too hot'. I still need to tune the ranges a little.

<eta> upgraded to an iPhone 12 which has a different screen than my 8. I uploaded a copy of the rescaled dashboard. Also, you’ll notice that it seems ‘offset’ some. That’s to deal with the iPhone notch.

awesome dashboard. i cant believe no response yet. the dropbox link doesnt work. i have a 2016 tacoma and just want easy way to get trans temp for drain/refill method.

I have an '18, but I suspect it may work for the '16 too? I updated the link, let me know if it won't let you download. Click on the link, then there's the option to download because browsers don't know what to do with *.stg files.

 

This is legitimately awesome! I was trying to build this ugly utilitarian dash and figured I’d check if anyone was sharing nice dashboards. This is super slick! I hope others share theirs as well, and if I’m able to put something half decent together myself I’ll post here.

Sometimes the well used and worn hammer is still the right tool. I really wish there was a way to build these on my mac, and then port to the iPhone.

 

When I first got my app, I found this thread and downloaded yours, but yours are sideways---I put my phone in a vertical mount in my truck. So I had to start from scratch. One day I am going to sit there with my phone and make one that doesn't look stock. There are a lot of cool looking ones on the internet, but it takes skills to make them. I like the ones with multiple things on one gauge. Like gear and T/C lock on the same gauge, etc.

Will do. I have in mind something for 4x4 showing all the wheels and perhaps spin rate or something. Will have to tinker.

Yea, I'd like to see this thread get some more people sharing Dashboards. That would be nice!

 

Off topic, but for anybody using OBD Fusion, I ask that you reach out to the developer and do a product improvement request for linear gauges. I asked them once and they said it was a great idea and they would put it on the development roadmap. That could be real, or polite service. But the more people who ask for it, the more likely it is to happen.

 

This is something other than gauge smoothing?

This is really cool. What 'dongle' are you guys using with your iPhones to get the readings? I wanna order one and do this.

Yep. Instead of the round dials, it would be nice to have thermometer style gauges that ‘fill up’. Basically, a straight line version of the round gauges.

6. Dashboard was intended to monitor the possible pain points, while towing in mountainous desert heat, on my old Nexus 6's screen. Results convinced me to get a Shift Sense Pro while I prep for a re-gear.

 

Nice work! Where’s the intake air sensor located? And ambient for that matter? In the vehicle that is.

 

I haven't actually checked on the truck, but the 2016 service manual screen cap says ambient sensor is where they usually are. Behind the grill, in front of the radiator, about midway up on the drivers side of the center post pair.

Intake air sensors have to be right at the intake for ECU computation purposes, downstream from the air cleaner. Haven't found a diagram yet.
