Wait, is the kick starter loose on its shaft? Or is the motor just really easy to turn over?

take the spark plug out and put your finger over the cylnder and crank over listen for air throught the exhaust and where your finger is should be able to tell if she has compression.....
assuming you have no comp tester

    also 2 strokes FTMFW

Well a 125 2 stroke is going to be easy to start compared to your 4 stroke, but it sounds like low compression. It at the very least needs a new top end or worst case also needing the bottom end rebuilt. It won't be over 500 to fix at the very most. More likely around 130 to get it running.

Yeah you'll know if the bottom is going too when you get the cylinder off by seeing if there is play in the bearing where the rod connects to the crank. Those usually last a long time though if you run the right 2t oil.

I had a buddy who could start his 125 with his hand. I'm going with low compression as well.

oh, maybe there is something wrong with the idler gear on the kick starter. You need to make sure the piston is actually moving up and down when you push the kick starter down. Also see if you can get it to bump start, if it has a new top end that was installed correctly it will start.

nah, the crank usually just seizes which would mean the kick starter wouldn't even move.

You might want to try posting this over on thumpertalk, they know their stuff.
