I've been using whatever is on sale for the last 20 years. The color means nothing.

    FEW

most will end up .........mixing ............

the worst thing anyone can do

the anti freeze makers & the car manufacturers cover thier azzzes with a simple caveat

mostly to cover that near emergency situ so that the driver/vehicle can continue

adding anything isnt short term is Not terminal

    mixing the pink

    orange

    green

of diff brands same color will result to swill inside the engine

coolant makers have their own dedicated formulas

if U have good reason to change F L U S H with straight water then fill with what U have

this time o year not likely to freeze & lose an engine

    Why not use Toyota's coolant?

All I use is (non diluted) Toyota Extra Long Life coolant (red not pink) and distilled water.

Never had an issue still on the original water pump.

I wouldn't mix coolants or use other stuff, Toyota formulates their coolants to lubricate their parts and protect their alloys appropriately.

If I *HAD* to use something else in a pinch I would use pretty much any "asian" formula coolant and then replace again at home.

It's not that expensive considering you only need to replace coolant like every 2 years or so. What are you saving by using aftermarket? It's not like it's going to cool better.

Coolant is anti freezing agents, lubricants, and, corrosion inhibitors. What actually exchanges engine heat to atmospheric air is the water itself and you can't get "better" water than just pure distilled water so...

    Why not use OEM?

Ummm, no you don't? Unless you drive 50k miles every year...

A coolant replacement every two years is way overkill.

Little known detail ; Factory Toyota coolant is flammable and also has coagulating properties {slows minor leaks ...}Read the label about the flammable part , a instructor@tech school in Torrance explained that other feature to me about 40 years ago ...

A *lot* may have changed in 40 years but you've piqued my curiosity, I'll read the label of my Toyota stuff again when I get home, don't recall anything like that.

After doing a bit of searching the web I found Pentofrost A4. Would that be an acceptable aftermarket replacement coolant? Looks like its available at Advanced auto parts near me for about $20 a gallon premixed.
