Nice, I have one just like it, right down to the color and over fenders. Production date 03/12, 46,000 original miles. AT because that's the only way to get bucket seats, a necessity. It's pretty much stock except for OEM add-ons: cruise, interval wipers, DRL, hitch and harness, tonneau, etc. Your picture here brings up a question. Mine came with the 'AUX' input for the radio, I see yours has the 'USB/AUX'. I secured a used OEM 'USB/AUX' connector, and I had already had upgraded the stock radio to the Toyota step-up 86120-04260 (A518B3 on face) which has a USB input. Both ends are proprietary connectors so I haven't found a solution. I was hoping Toyota had a pigtail so I wouldn't have to buy an entire vehicle harness, and the USB shouldn't need to integrate into the entire network anyway. May I ask, how did you connect yours? Thanks!

There is one tab that you will need to file to make the two connectors mate up. You will know when you see it.

You will have a very long cable with no idea where to put the excess. I coiled mine up (about three small turns) and placed it behind the tire pressure computer.

 

Wow, you're the first to know anything about this connection, thanks! Please indulge once more as the factory radio connections are unique. I've included a picture of the back side for illustration. I know one of these receptacles is for USB because all models except base had this radio, and

86190-0C020, thus the 'USB/AUX' connection. Do you know one is for USB and does your solution work with it? I figure after market radios have the standard USB connect which would make this much simpler. Thanks again.

 

It looks like that blue connector is where the USB plugs into. The one on my navigation (non-JBL) radio is grey and looks like this.



What year is that radio/truck? Also, does it have JBL? I can look at a wiring diagram for it.

 

Sub note here. I looked up one of the part numbers you mentioned, PT546-00120, and it looked like it could be exactly what I need. The picture was on Amazon (best picture I could find), but it didn't show the ends of the cable from the plug side so I couldn't see for sure. We're talking about a wire that would directly connect

86190-0C020 to the A518B3 radio. Looking at the picture above, it seems probable that the USB connection receptacle is either the top most white 8-pin, or the second from left white 12- pin. With your background on this, does it seem I'm on the right track? Oh, my main requirement for adding the USB port is charging. Thanks!

 

Sorry, I missed your last post. My Tacoma is a 2012, production date 03/12. The radio I added is what the owner's book lists as 'Type B', it is the one between the entry level, and the JBL model. The 2012 sales brochure does specify that it has 'USB port'. Factory model number on the radio is 86120-04260, with ID #A518B3 on the face. Thanks.

 

Here is the wiring for a 2012. You have to see if you have the "multimedia interface ECU" (on page 3 of the .PDF, behind the glove box). I assume you do not.

 

Thank you. I will look, but I suspect you are right. So, you're saying some models have a multimedia interface ECU which would accommodate the USB as well as the stereo jack adaptor, and some do not? Logic dictates a feed from a USB source to the radio, inputted through the USB/AUX port, should be able to pass and receive power and data without additional support. This is a feature that most 2012 models had, and became standard in 2013. I thought for sure there would be a direct connection, sounds like not. Sure wish a knew someone with an upgrade Taco and could have them look. Thank for for the wiring diagram, I will keep it for future reference. Side note here, you have me thinking about the Uni Filter mod. I didn't even know about it until I read your list of updates.

 

I'm not sure what trucks have the interface ECU (maybe just the JBL ones?). It's something I saw when I was doing research on my install. I was happy that it didn't take a lot of parts to get the USB and AUX working.

The uni-filter mod is one of the first mods I did. I kept the foam filter and plastic cap that was removed and so should you if you ever need to bring it to the dealer if the pump fails and your truck is covered under the Customer Support Program "ZHA".

 

Installed XM antenna. Going to grab some parts so I can mount the GPS antenna (under dash).

 

That looks great, and has a nice OEM appearance. The upgrade Toyota radio I added does have Sirius XM as a standard feature, but I haven't messed with getting it working. The backup cam and USB connect are now up on my to-do list.

I don't have a current picture at the moment. I'm going to pull the Bushwacker flares off first.

 

Here is what I used to drill the hole in the dash. You have to be careful because the plastic grabs the drill bit. You can either damage your dashboard or drill the hole too big.

I have a cordless Snap-On driver that I've had for years and this is a perfect attachment for it.
