What have you made/created today?

Here’s a recent afternoon project Using the cnc to make some knife (and saw) sheaths for easier transport.

 

Those are freaking gorgeous.

True art.

I love wood - even have a wooden watch band. I think there's something special about it that keeps us connected to the natural world.

I'm using a haas vf2. I'm a bit spoiled with the machines I have access to. After I'm more comfortable with 3 axis I'll be jumping on 3+2 with the Haas umc 750. I like my manual machines, and for the most part can machine one offs much faster, but I like learning new things and thanks to covid I had some free time to do some learning.

 

Talk about beautiful those are awesome!

 

A few mods and you could sell the hell out of those things at a head shop lol

I have been super mega busy, I picked up a new job making dice which has been taking up a lot of my time. If I make some fancy ones, I may post them up in here in the future.
Anyways, today was my first time picking up a paintbrush in 2 months. It's obviously not done, but idk how long this will take me to finish.

 

Needed to tile for a bar. Nonprofit. so I sent out a request for free tile this is what I ended up with. 14 by 16 feet

 

That looks great for free tile. No pattern is a really nice pattern.

 

Nice. What are all the hanging threads on the lower right quadrant?

 

The longer ones are "parked threads." I work diagonal up, then down and repeat, when I'm done using one color, I'll get it into the next diagonal and leave it hanging. When my needle gets low on a color, I bring it diagonally down like this \ to a corner, then as I work my way through filling boxes, when I get to the lower right most box where the hanging threads are, I cut them against the fabric, and the end gets tucked under where you can't see it, so it basically gets tied in by the stitches without making a knot.
It's kind of a hybrid method that I'm using for this piece, usually people do it in rows or columns, but either way, the tail ends up going in the direction your stitches are coming, if that makes sense lol.

Anyways, the bunch of threads are left there because It looks like I had grabbed all the colors I had parked stragglers from the last run and worked them down to the next diagonal that would be going up.

Here's where it's at now, haven't gotten to work on it in a few weeks:

I had one board of chestnut and made some checker pieces, spoons and stirring sticks. It’s amazingly strong if you follow the grain
