I've looked all over trying to figure out what this thing is called and I can't figure it out. I lost this piece on my truck when I put a cold air intake on and when I decided I didn't like that and went back to the original air box and tube I couldn't find it. I used a pvc elbow to get by but would like to get the correct part. Thanks!

I'd venture a guess it's part of the EGR system.

As many as I can fabricate
Some sort of air intake resonator. I'd look for the "air intake tube" drawings and go from there. Or...run down to toyota and ask the parts guy to pull up your parts drawing off the VIN.

its part of the egr that sucks gases from the fuel tank or unburnt fuel into your intake the box is just a sorta anti back fire if a fire comes though the front it wont wessel its way to the source belive it or not erg gases can e\xplode this is why the one way egr valve is used this is just a cheap version of it in plastic form is all

Pretty sure EGR routes exhaust gas from the exhaust manifold back into the intake manifold. Its not going to route it into the rubber intake duct before the throttle plate, that would melt the rubber.

PCV system is always going to have 2 hoses. One hose from a valve cover to the intake manifold and one from a valve cover to filtered fresh air.

But that intake hose setup looks a little different from my old 96. That plastic connector and where ever that hose goes looks different than what I've seen

That part is on the supply air side of the PCV system. That end of the system with the elbow also uses larger diameter hose than the earlier years. I have only noticed the combo on later years, nothing to do with EGR.
Crankcase vapors (blow by) can/does overwhelm the PCV valve at times and allows noxious oily vapors to back up into the supply side in high engine load/low vacuum conditions. This would be noticed by oily residue present in said hose and/or in the TB upstream of the throttle plate. I believe the larger hose/elbow was an attempt to cut down on the issue, providing a place for the vapors to condense then drain back into the engine during normal operating conditions.
In a momentary wide open throttle, low vacuum and PCV valve closed situation, some back flow is just a fact of life.

Earlier (99, 50 state emissions) small hose no elbow.
Fresh filtered air flows into the driver side valve cover, thru the engine and out the passenger side into the intake. This "air" is drawn thru the engine by full manifold vacuum. The PCV valve acts merely as a vacuum regulator of sorts so as to allow a bit of "ventilating" air flow without causing a full on vacuum leak.

Thanks everyone. I think I might have done the impossible and think my motor is on its last leg haha. To many hard hunting trips and not enough slow driving on dirt roads . The truck is pretty gutless now (more so than normal) and im constantly getting a flashing check engine light for cylinder 2 & 5 missfire so I've changed the ignition coils a couple times, spark plug wires, spark plugs, fuel injectors a couple of times and still get it so i gave up and have just kept driving it and there's definitely problems now. But at 280,000 miles I figured ill run it till its dead and try to find another engine after
