'03 tacoma clutch?

hey my coma people. I have a 2003 3.4L tacoma. K&N CAI, Throttle body spacer, NGK plugs, new wiring, and Gibson cat-back. My buddy recently thought driving the heck out of it one night would be a good idea. Long story short, I need to get a new clutch kit. The rig is a daily driver, but I do like to get on it a lil, and I do some towing. Can I get any suggestions, help, information as to what a great set up would be for a new clutch? I want to get a little bit heavier duty of a pressure plate, but I see no reason to go as far as a full ceramic clutch (something like ACT) because of the fact that Im not trying to drag race the thing, nor am I trying to do any crazy mudding or rock crawling.
I have been searching the web endlessly and I just really am not sure what to stick with.

Im looking at the marlin crawler website. Thing is, I dont know a ton. So some of this info is foreign to me. Would you have anymore specific insight?

 

clutch kit is also in my near future, and i know marlin makes excellent products. Also heard of a TRD clutch kit, but probably more expensive than a marlin kit considering it would be through Toyota. Anyone have any info on these?

thanks man. That page says that the stock tacoma clutch only holds 900 ft-lbs. Is that true? Thats weaksauce! My stepdad has a couple beautiful landcruisers, a '72 fj-40 with more than enough work into it, and a '80 fj-40 with everything still pretty much stock. He says he runs the 2400 ft-lb pressure plate with the original straight 6 in the '80. Is he overdoing it? would it be beneficial for me to look into one of the stronger plated kits from marlin? (sorry for all the questions, Im just trying to do the best for my truck)

 

That 900lb is plenty for our v6 so that 1200lb I linked you to will do lol. There are tons of people both here and on TTORA running that same one with great results.

Just to make sure we are clear. Im not trying to make my truck a rock crawler or a drag truck, but I do want a clutch that is going to hold up. The Marlin clutch you pointed me to reads that it is a huge step up from stock and is made for the rock crawler. and one mechanic I talked to sounded a lil nervous about adding that extra 300ft-lbs to the pressure plate. and everyone I have called has no clue what the stock ft-lbs would be, even our local toyota parts and service center had no clue. I dont want to end up with a part that is going to end up tearing up different parts of my truck.
oh and I didnt read that Marlin had a warranty on thier clutch kit....kinda lookin for that warranty.

 

Well you can always go OEM with the parts but the marlin kit isn't going to cause breakage of other parts. If you put enough force on the OEM clutch to make it slip other things are going to break first, so the marlin kit will be no different.

Its up to you though.

 

thanks man, you have been a lot of help. Im gonna order that marlin now. They are doing a 15$ flat rate shipping charge today only. Do you know if they send warranty papers with it though?

 

No clue, you could call them and ask about the warranty.
