I can make things out of wood, I prefer steel though. I guess it’s a matter of preference is all.

    Story time.

Last time I got drunk was December 7th, 2011. I watched my dad drink growing up. I used to leave notes with his hidden liquor bottles asking him to stop. Never worked.

I turned into him at 20 years old, getting drunk every chance I got. I quit once for 2 years in my late 20’s then started back.

I drank a lot with my dad, friends, but mostly by myself.

I got married at 35, still an alcoholic. My wife and I went through a miscarriage and the night it happened I was drunk.

A couple months later she got pregnant with our son and I decided then and there if he grows up to be an alcoholic he wasn’t learning it from his old man like I did from mine.

December 8th this year will be 9 years of sobriety for me. It took me many, many tries to quit for good. I couldn’t tell you if my dad still drinks or not, we’re not as close as we once were.

I have no problem with people who drink. It took me a long time to admit I had a problem. My problem is if I buy a 12 pack or 18 pack or a bottle, I have to drink it all. Once I start, I don’t stop until I’m out.

I’m not gonna lie, I miss it sometimes but I know I can’t taste it or I’ll start back. My wife and kids are more important to me than me drinking.

Congratulations for your decision and your 9 yrs sober. It's a long hard road your on, lots of pot holes and potential wrong turns. Not an alcoholic but married to one. She relapsed at 24 years and has become a low level maintenance drinker, and she hates herself for it.

So here’s a little more about those parts that I had in the back of my truck. They’re not simply box tube with mounting plates welded onto the ends. When approached by the customer they had a CAD model of a trapezoid shaped part with a taper from one end to the other, no instructions on how they wanted it fabricated. Not exactly something that you can buy in the form of aluminum extrusion. So I had to get creative and make these parts from 1/4” thick 6061-T6 sheet and fully MIG weld them (4043 wire).
In order to make sure they always were welded in the correct orientation, I made the edge surfaces join together with sawtooth tabs which only mated with the correct edge of the corresponding part.
They are also internally gusseted to help hold the shape while adding all of that heat while welding.
Had another batch of them rolling through the shop and thought I’d show the pieces. This is after they come out of the sheet off of our high speed punch.
